Mike Montgomery not in the top #57 prospects and behind Jake Odorizzi is kind of a joke to me IMO.

I think Montgomery's ranking is going to look silly

when we look back at this in a few years.

I agree with you

I am not one to overlook numbers but, you have to look at context too. He was a really young guy, with really good stuff, who struggled some at aaa but, that shouldn’t impact his future much, i don’t think. His results aren’t as bad as they appear on first glance either. That 5.32 was good for above average in the PCL.

“That 5.32 was good for above average in the PCL.”

League average era in the PCL was 5.12 in 2011.

totally agreed.

lefties with his stuff are usually very valuable, even if he doesn’t hit his ceiling, which imo is top-20 worthy

by daveh33 on Jan 3, 2026 5:00 PM EST up reply actions

Agree as well.

Guy was only 21 in AAA, not to mention in the PCL which is a hitters league. Guy has #1 or #2 potential. Crazy how far he has dropped.

I know same thought, how much different is James Paxton and Mike Montgomery really is there?

I like Montgomery

And would have put him above Gary Sanchez (except I missed that vote). But I think Lavarnway is considerably underrated here also, a major league ready catcher who put up those kind of power numbers.
