Can anyone make the argument for Springer over ManBan?

Looking at you, case :)

Manny is a year and a half younger than Springer, and has already succeeded in AAA, whereas Springer will probably start 2012 in A-ball. I like Springer, but I have Banuelos 20+ spots higher on my overall list. I know bats are usually safer, but I am going with the higher ceiling, closer to the majors arm in this poll.

Well

How many gold glove 25/25 CF are there out there? Springer has the higher upside of the two.

I'd agee

I guess I’m just not impressed with Banuelos’s “succes” in AAA. He was okay. He was also justy okay in AA too. The are reasons and, exceptions but, in general, the major leagues are made up of people who were outstanding in the minor leagues. I’m waiting to see more of that from Banmuelos. I guess I’d roll the dice on an athlete like Springer over Banuelos’s upside. When I saw him pitch, I see some ability but, no big, exciting ceiling to get excited about.

Oh and CDB, our list is made up of who we think will haver the best, major league careers again isn’t it? I realize that this may be harder to see, the further a player is from the show but, it is still irrelevent who is closer to the majors, technically.

All said, I still think Springer has a chance to not be able to hit in the major leagues but, I wouldn’t feel like i was passing on anything great to take a shot on him. Shoot, maybe I’m not that high on either of these fellas, come to think of it? :)

Happy Holliday's everybody. Be safe and, enjoy! - Case

Closeness to the majors is not irrelevant. It means that prospect is a more proven commodity, and less likely to fail. At least that is how I look at it. That is only part of looking at prospects, or I wouldn’t have Bundy above ManBan, but it is still a significant part.
And I personally do not believe Springer has the higher upside, auclair, but I know you are pretty high on him. I have a feeling he is going to struggle next year transitioning into pro ball, but I could be wrong.

i think people also underestimate

the probability of injury happening, especially for pitchers

each additional year a pitcher requires in the minors, is an additional year of injury risk before they have a chance to compete in the majors

Great post there, Case

Couldn’t have said it any better. Absolutely spot on.
