Where do you rank Wil Myers

Myers is tearing the cover off the ball in AA. He hits his 10th homerun of the season and is also hitting .336 entering tonights game with an OPS of 1.081. Myers was the #10 prospect entering last season. He than battled injuries and struggled but now it looks like he is back to 2010 form

So where does he rank among other top prospects?

this might be a bit high but I think with his strong start he is a top 10 prospect

What do you think?

I think that I’m still very upset when the Cardinals didn’t draft him in 09. I had remembered he was mocked at 4 overall by the Pirates. When he fell past the 1st round I wanted the Cardinals to draft him. When we drafted a HS catcher who was drafted for his upside and potential named Robert Stock I was furious as Myers fit the same type of pick. Obviously Stock’s potential came from when he was 14 while Myers had current upside. Obviously we made the wrong choice with that and the Royals got a steal.

It’s looking like he is athletic enough to stay in CF which increases his value. I think he should be a Top 15 overall this year.

CF

Everything I’ve read has said there is zero chance he plays centerfield as his range is not very good. Maybe he fills in if Cain gets hurt, but very unlikely he sees much (if any) time in center once he gets to KC.

"Obviously Stock’s potential came from when he was 14 while Myers had current upside."

I have to say I totally snorted at this. If you had made a reference to the Cardinals’ crew watching videos of the 14 year old Stock to scout the now 19 year old Stock, I might have temporarily stopped breathing.

I said it to get a laugh. That said Stock was Bryce Harper before Bryce Harper was. On the cover of Sports Illustrated at 12, Top HS player at 14. He pretty much maxed out at 14. Heck there were rumors he was throwing 95 at 14. Obviously even in his time at USC he didn’t live up to the hyper going into college.

Stock was the type of college player the Cardinals offen like to take. Raw college players with projectability or one flaw that causes them to drop out of the 1st round. Essentially, someone who at one point had been a 1st round talent but no longer was. They they hope to fix the guy to get a 1st round talent at a 3rd or 5th round price.

Ryan Jackson was in first round talks coming out of HS but his bat never developed(until High A that is)
Stock if he simply would have finished his HS career he would have been drafted very high out of HS. He left HS early for USC.
They choose Scott Biddle and his Mariano Rivera like cutter despite him having severe elbow issues.
They choose John Gast who dropped and whose velocity was down. They rehabbed his arm.

Essentially all guys that who at one point were considered to have 1st round talent yet for some physical/performance reason they dropped.

Top 10

I could very well see Myers in the top 10. His K rate is looking bad but i think that’ll change soon. His power is just insane as of now though. So top 10 is possible. If not then defiantly in the top 15.

Defiantly

Wil Myers is ‘in the Top 15’ & he doesn’t care who agrees.

Hard not to be with these numbers

I know this is somewhat silly, but I still think it’s fun. If the season ended today, I think a better question would be which prospects are ahead of Wil? I would say Bundy, Profar, Machado, and…..meh. If Wil can continue to play a decent CF, he’s a top 5 for me.

Don’t forget Taveras… He may not be over Myers but what he is doing at a 19 year old in the same league as Myers is as impressive.

Same can be said for Taijuan Walker...

Who is dominating AA as a 19 year old and his stuff looks as good as anyone out there.

Jay Bruce II?

Myers is fanning more each year, and walking less…but who cares if you’re hitting .340 and slugging .700+, right? Striking out in 30% of his PA’s is an awful lot, though. Looks like a Jay Bruce skillset, and definitely top 10 for me.

If he can play an average MLB centerfield for 4 or 5 years, then top 3 or 4 for sure. I love that Myers, Yelich, Taveras, and even Harper has played some center this year. We need a new wave of power-hitting CF’ers in the majors. ;)
