I like Brett Jackson here
It’s pretty close but I am a big believer in results at the higher levels. Wheeler looks great and has been excellent in the FSL but he’s still a few steps away from being in the majors let alone at the front end of a major league rotation.
Jackson, on the other hand, is nearly a finished product and his combination of patience and power while playing passable defense in center make him a much closer bet to reach his ceiling.

But will he be able to stick in CF?
That’s a legitimate question, no?

Seems like
He’ll be able to stick as a serviceable CF or a plus corner guy. There is value in the ability to serviceably play another position, making room for another free agent hitter or prospect that can’t play center at all.

I think he will be able to be at least an average CFer
by cookiedabookie on Dec 8, 2025 6:50 PM EST up reply actions
general belief right now
is that he should be an above average CF through his cost-controlled years. If he gets moved off, it’ll likely be due to the Cubs having someone better defensively to push him aside. There was never any major physical concern (above average range, solid arm), but the issue from the 2010 season was that he took some poor angles and made some bad reads at times. Most reports are that he cleaned things up a lot, but obviously, no guarantees.

Sounds a lot like Granderson's minor league reports
And while he still has some bad reads, he is definitely an average+ CF.

The strikeouts worry me
He hit .297 in AAA but it took him a .402 BABIP to do it.
by psiogen on Dec 8, 2025 7:31 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, that's high
But it’s not unusual for certain hitters to have high BABIPs in the minors. Definitely something to keep an eye on, though.
