Here's a report from Scott Lucas on Tanner Scheppers
“Reliever Tanner Scheppers probably pitched as well as I’ve ever seen him, certainly the best I’ve seen since his original assignment to Frisco in 2010. Scheppers retired the side in order on 12 pitches, offering a fastball that ranged from 96 to 100 MPH and what now looks like a full-blown slider that reached 86. Leadoff hitter Gil Velazquez managed to ground out, but the next two batters struck out swinging. This was the equivalent of an established Major Leaguer coming over to the back fields to get in some work against some AA hitters. Scheppers has had some missteps, too, but on the whole he’s shown substantial improvement over last year, when his fastball command was largely absent.”

Probably going to get injured in like 2 appearances.

Here is an article from today’s game from milb.com

This might explain how he has had more walks this year, but they have come in bunches.

Buckel

Really loved him as a semi-sleeper (probably a bit too high profile to be considered a sleeper) preseason and thrilled with what I’ve seen. Question for y’all-

I’ve got AJ Cole in my dynasty league. We can each have 8 prospects and there are 20 teams, so roughly 160 prospects are owned. In reality it’s less than that since you are only required to have a minimum of 6. Buckel and Aaron Sanchez are both on the wire, should I stick with AJC or grab one of the others, and if so which? I’m leaning Sanchez.

Great deal

Ernesto will be valuable in the back end of the LAA bullpen but he was an expendable piece for the Pads. I didn’t expect this kind of return for him. As a Pad fan I’m happy.

by polyrhythm07 on May 3, 2025 11:07 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

am i missing something?

Frieri’s numbers look really good for a reliever, even if you take into account park and leverage

amarista profiles as a utility guy, and roach might be a decent prospect eventually? neither guy started out among the Top 20 Angels prospects prior to the beginning of the season for Sickels…

why is this good for the Pads?

especially compared to the fact that the Pads were able to deal Adams for Erlin and Wieland?

by blue bulldog on May 4, 2025 7:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I think its Donn Roach

It depends on how you view Roach. Maybe it’s an overreaction to great numbers in A ball, but it seems like this guy is the focal point of the trade.

go long with extenze...i do

by angelsownredsux on May 4, 2025 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions

i guess i'm skeptical

i mean, i guess we have to assume the Pads wouldn’t just trade Frieri for nothing, so maybe their scouts see something also

but Roach isn’t exactly young for his league, and he doesn’t miss bats. it’s all about the groundballs for him, but groundballs are very unpredictable when trying to figure out if minor league rates will translate to major league rates.

XST games are just like back field B games in spring training.

Mets wanted him getting extra reps instead of sending him to Brooklyn. It is not an injury related issue.

I’ve heard he will skip SS and go straight to Savannah.

Similar to what the Royals are doing with Starling.

by mlbprospectpulse on May 4, 2025 8:58 AM EDT reply actions

The Royals don't have a short season team.

They have three Rookie League teams, from there it’s full season Low Class A Kane County, which is in the Midwest League.

by mlbprospectpulse on May 4, 2025 9:53 AM EDT reply actions

OT

OK, so what is the technical difference between short season ball, and rookie ball? More specifically, why isn’t rookie ball considered short season ball? Thanks. (I ask b/c this could be the distinction in whether or not I get to see Starling in Idaho Falls this summer).

by dbreer23 on May 4, 2025 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions

Rookie ball is kind of like a pro orientation league, it's almost like spring training for newly signed or drafted players.

They are, in most cases, held at the team’s spring training facility and/or minor league headquarters, and guys do other things than play ball.

The actual season itself is in the 40-60 game range, whereas a true SS team will play around 90 and is strictly baseball.

A full class will be 120+.

Can anyone with more knowledge let me know what is his situation? Is he still suffering from his injuries last year? He had only allowed 1 ER all season before this but he’s only been pitching 2-4 innings per game…what’s his current ceiling? Still project as a starter?

by gobruins12345 on May 4, 2025 4:26 PM EDT reply actions

Outside of the walk rate, he's looked pretty good this year....

He’s had blister problems again recently, and they’re limiting his innings right now to get them under control.

As for his last start, I believe he was the victim of two pretty awful errors in the third inning (to be fair, one of the errors was on him), and he ended up giving a homer following those errors. He might have gotten a little flustered and let that get the best of him.

I still think he may project to be a late innings reliever, but it’s too early to pull the plug on him starting.
