"If you hit .440 with 20 bombs, you don't have to do s---. You don't have to bring a glove to practice, just hit and leave whenever you want. You can bring a 40 and smoke a cigarette and call me from the parking lot asking me what time the game is, and I'll tell you. You can even say 'F--- you, Steve!' Actually, don't say that, that wouldn't be very nice." -Steve Friend, Head Coach, Chabot College Gladiators Baseball

Martinez report (as extremely positive as you're going to find)
Link here.
Martinez’s fastball is a true plus pitch. It is a truly devastating pitch that sits in the mid-to-high 90s and cuts in on a right-handed hitter. Not only does it cut in, the movement is very late. I am not claiming it is as good as this pitch but the pitch it is most similar to is Mariano Rivera’s cut fastball. Just as with Rivera’s cutter, after the batter has already decided to swing, it moves to the right and ends up on the end of a left-handed hitter’s bat or in on a right-hander’s hands.
For me, Martinez’s absolute floor is an MLB closer, and a good one. His ceiling is an elite #1 guy. Martinez is special, folks.
Take a look at minute 6:49 in the video and you’ll how his 4 seam fastball explodes out of his hand. He’s truly reminiscent of Pedro Martinez. While sitting behind the plate that night I couldn’t stop thinking "Wow" in my head. I’ve been to a lot of games. I’ve seen a lot of pitchers. Martinez stuff is unrivaled in my experience. I know that sounds insane to say about a 19 year old in his first season of Full Season ball in the states, but it’s not a stretch.

There is some negative stuff
In that report about his weird delivery, but they obviously aren’t too concerned.

Thanks for the link
Lindor/Paxton was close & this one was even closer. I opted for the ‘potential franchise SS’ lottery ticket once again but CMM is my top overall pitcher not on the overall list at this point & I would (will?) go with he over Bubba Starling, Xander Bogaerts &/or Anthony Rizzo.

Serious question, is that site reliable?
The reason I ask is because the guy doesn’t know what a cutter is or what direction it moves. A cutter from a RHP moves away from a RHH and in on a LHH. He apparently hasn’t even watched Rivera since he doesn’t know what direction his cutter moves. Kind of makes it tough to trust much of anything the guy has to say.

not sure how reliable it is honestly
they certainly have written fairly extensive reports on a lot of players and their top 10s have fairly significant write ups. it is highly unlikely that they are just making everything up, but i don’t really know how much to respect their opinions. for now, i’ll say less than the main folks we have been hearing from for a while, but anyone who has extensive commentary and video about tons and tons of players, i’m going to listen to. it’s not like they are pumping out top 10s or top 20s without much commentary, which a bunch of sites do, and really anyone can do without much insight.

there is a chance they just switched RHH and LHH accidentally
Hard to think they wouldn’t have ever seen Rivera pitch when they have obviously watched a ton of video.

I don't think so
I mean he made the same mistake in the first sentence and the last sentence. Not to mention I’ve never heard anything about Martinez’s fastball being a cutter and every fastball I saw in their video (I didn’t watch the whole thing, but it seemed like he was describing his normal fastball) had the normal arm side run that 2 and 4 seamers have, which is exactly the movement he’s describing in the first place.
by nixa37 on Nov 29, 2025 1:56 PM EST up reply actions
Yup.
I watched the video and they all had arm side run as far as my untrained eyes could tell.

I wasn't suggesting they're making everything up or anything
Just that perhaps they don’t have much of a clue what they’re talking about.

Lindor for me
His defense and position give him a pretty high floor for a young draftee and there is some pretty good potential in his bat. Martinez has strong stuff but a fairly significant chance of being a reliever. He’s closer to Arodys Vizcaino for me, and Vizcaino’s still a good bit off on my list.

Gotta go with Lindor
I like Martinez a lot—-borderline top 10 among pitchers. But. But he has yet to establish meaningful durability, and the reports on Lindor are sooo reminiscent of Profar from 12 months ago. True shortstop, and should hit quite a bit.
When in doubt, go position player. ;)
