The two most advanced ARL prospects, besides Harper, face off!
Wow, this is a tough, interesting matchup here. Julio Teheran is a favorite of mine and, unlike some, I was actually totally impressed with him in his big league starts. He’s a baby with supernatural confidence and, pitchability for his age and, oh yeah, great stuff.
That said, Profar is arguably even more advanced for his age, and profiles as the rarest of commodities - a SS who gets on base, has power, and an asset on defense - and might start doing so in the bigs by the time he is 20.
I reserve the right to be wrong and, that Teheran could turn out to be a very unique ace starter but, Man, Profar would be tough to pass up here.

I voted Profar here and it's not that close for me.
Teheran is great, but Profar is a SS without a real hole in his game, except maybe power potential. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hit 15-20 HR regularly with plenty of doubles while stealing 20-30 bases or more. That’ll come with plenty of average, elite plate discipline, and plusish defense at SS. Unreal.
I’m not sure if it was ever an actual possibility, but there were rumors of Hanrahan for Profar before the season and during the very beginning of the season and I still dream of the possibility. Probably a pipedream, but sure was a great one.

I haven’t seen Profar play, but I’ve seen just enough reports that he’s more polish than tools to make me reluctant to pick him over a potential ace who’s already dominated AAA at 20. And what if Profar moves off SS in deference to Andrus?
by rlwhite on Nov 10, 2025 8:48 AM EST up reply actions
This
We have no idea yet whether Profar’s relatively high polish compared to guys his age will translate into exceptional performance at higher levels. I’m impressed by Profar and will have him in my Top 10, but not over a handful of guys who have been outstanding at high levels.
by siddfynch on Nov 10, 2025 10:52 AM EST up reply actions
Why should Andrus cause us to rank Profar lower?
by mr. maniac on Nov 10, 2025 11:14 AM EST up reply actions
Exactly
You rank a prospect on his abilities, who is ahead of him on the depth chart has no bearing on his abilities.

Modification
I think prospects should be ranked based on their prospective value.
I just don’t think the depth chart affects the value. Think of it this way. If Profar’s market value is as a top-notch SS, and the Rangers can only play him at 2B (where presumably he’d be less valuable), then they would trade him with that SS valuation, use the return assets and acquire a comparable 2B and then use the surplus for something else.
Or, if they think Profar is more valuable than Andrus, they could do the scenario above with Andrus instead of Profar.
Regardless, the depth chart won’t affect the value of the prospect assuming a relatively liquid market.
by blue bulldog on Nov 10, 2025 12:55 PM EST up reply actions
I just don't see how you could pick Profar
Teheran is super young for his league, has great stats, stuff, is very close to the majors, and has #1 potential. Moore is the only other person like that, although he’s not as young for his league but the stats and stuff are better. I have Moore ranked 2nd. There’s definitely not enough separation from Moore and Teheran for Moore to beat Profar with 96% and Teheran to lose to Profar.
by Bososx13 on Nov 10, 2025 1:55 PM EST up reply actions
you probably didn't see
but as i’ve mentioned elsewhere, i personally have four pitchers ahead of Teheran
i can’t answer for other voters
by blue bulldog on Nov 10, 2025 2:27 PM EST up reply actions
I strongly disagree.
Out of recent pitching prospects, Moore is on another tier.
Over the past couple of years (2-3), you really have:
Tier 1: Strasburg
Tier 2: Moore
Tier 3: Hellickson, Teheran, etc…..
by mr. maniac on Nov 10, 2025 5:29 PM EST up reply actions
Why bring the market into the evaluation of a prospect?
If someone were to tell me that all SS were going to hit poorly in 2014 (except Profar) during Profar’s rookie year and then bounce back in 2015, I’m not sure that should affect Profar’s ranking.
Market inefficiences and such shouldn’t determine a prospects ranking, only value.

Agree with you on Julio Teheran re:MLB exposure
I thought he showed well also. Anyways, yes, this is a close one.

I don’t see the point in dragging it out any longer. It is a close vote, but somebody’s got to win. Profar wins 40-37.
