Middlebrooks

. . ls either going to be a good, major league third baseman OR he is the 78th best prospect in baseball. He can’t be both . . . discuss.

I think Molina has a decent career as a major league relief pitcher and, that ends up being better than what Middlebrooks does.

If

he is a good major league third baseman, he will have been better than the 77th best prospect. there aren’t going to be anything like 77 good, regular major leaguers in this group. Molina as a reliever is more in line with 77th best at this point..

Unless you had a different question ’Cutch?

You're

talking in absolutes, which I would argue aren’t particularly applicable here.

isn't*?

by McCutchenIsTheTruth on Jan 25, 2026 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

There is one absolute here

Whetgher or not Middlebrooks becomes a major leaguer of any quality isn’t an absolute or, whether or not Molina does.

It is an absolute fact that there will not be 77 major leaguye reguklars from the group we are evaluating here. Its impossible. It would makle it the best iminor league group ever. So, If Middlebroks makes it as a solid major league player (say a Joe Crede type), that would make him a lot better than the 88th nbest player. I’m not aying he is. I’m saying he is probably correctly ranked.

77th + not a major leaguer, especially for a player who is fairly close to the big leagues, that we have info about.

If anybody strongl;y believes he is going to have a major leaguye career of any significant quality, they most likley rank him a LOT higher than 77th.

Shoot

excuse MY spelling

77th = not a big leaguer

Er

I mean I guess. I still think you’re just dismissing upside.

For example, compare Middlebrooks to a guy like Archie Bradley. If we were to bet who has the better chance of becoming a major-leaguer (let’s say the determination is having a career total of 3 WAR) of some sort, then it sounds to me like you’d take Bradley based on your reasoning, because he’s the better prospect. I’d take Middlebrooks and not even think about it. It’s an easy decision. Middlebrooks has a better floor than Bradley. Now jump that threshold to 30 WAR, and my money is on Bradley.

You’re dealing in absolutes. The absolute is that there is only one outcome for a prospect: a major league baseball. That’s not true.

Essentially..

If anybody strongl;y believes he is going to have a major leaguye career of any significant quality, they most likley rank him a LOT higher than 77th.

I disagree
