Mark Appel Dominant Friday Night

Since I have been a bit tough on Appel because he hasn't been as dominant for a pitcher with his stuff, he had an excellent performance last night.

He went the distance again this week but with much better results, 9 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 14 K, and reportedly hit 96 in the 9th. Something that had me worried was that his FB velocity didn't hold up as the game went along so if this report is true then its something bare watching this summer.

Here is a video I found of his Curve-ball last night.

Mike Zunnino also had a strong Friday going 2/4 with 2HR and 4 RBI, while Kevin Gausman was no slouch going 8 innings deep of scoreless baseball while allowing only 2 hits with no walks and 8 strike-outs.

After the bad news for that Lucas Giolito may miss the rest of the season guys seem to be steeping up.

Gausman had 11 Ks, not 8

Appel did it against Rice though (9th by CS Power Rankings), while Gausman did it against Michigan (188th by CS Power Rankings).

It’s turning into a stuff vs polish debate between those 2.

Ugh, I really just want one guy to emerge as the favorite.

I thought it would be Giolito, and all this uncertainty is bugging me. It’s tough for me to be excited about Appel, but I will be if he can string together a bunch more of these outings, but for now I’m really hoping it’s Gausman or Zunino.
