+1 for Brandon Jacobs

I really, really don’t get all of the support for some of these OFs over Jacobs, Mike Mahtook & the Big Ozuna. It seems like a mix of Robbie Grossman types & young guys who are so far away that they just don’t match up to me. I’d even go Bryce Brentz &/or Charlie Blackmon (who I like more than Grossman) over most of this lot. Joe Benson? Que sera sera I guess.

I think at this point in the list, people either go for upside or for safety

I try to do a bit of both. Ozuna, Brentz and Benson are in the low 60s for me, Blackmon and Jacobs in the 70s. My next five are:
Mason Williams
Mikie Mahtook
James Darnell
Tyler Pastornicky
Matt Adams

Darnell v Grossman

Why anyone would think Grossman is better than Darnell is beyond me. Maybe Im missing something but, it took RG two years to hit well in A+ ball, whereas it look like Darnell could be a decent big league hitter right now.

and upside? Grossman has the chance to post elite OBP numbers with decent power and play plus defense at a corner. That’s all I got.

by McCutchenIsTheTruth on Jan 25, 2026 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

Could be

I think he is a little old to have any great upside, having not played AA ball yet. You giot me on the defense though. Lots of guys in the minors could help a team on defense but, cant hit though. My hunch is Darnell ends up a role player and Grossman ends up, not a big leaguer but, we’ll see i guess.

Darnell

At the same age as Grossman was last year, Darnell had not even had an at bat above Class A Short Season. ;)
