"If you hit .440 with 20 bombs, you don't have to do s---. You don't have to bring a glove to practice, just hit and leave whenever you want. You can bring a 40 and smoke a cigarette and call me from the parking lot asking me what time the game is, and I'll tell you. You can even say 'F--- you, Steve!' For Me

You’d have to be REALLY high on one of these other guy’s upside to not vote for Grandal. We are talking about a pretty good defensive catcher, with supposedly a higher catcher IQ, and a very solid bat (good enough to play quite a few positions).

by auclairkeithbc on Nov 27, 2025 12:42 PM EST up reply actions

Not completely sold on the bat. Obviously, Grandal had a great year, but I’m wary of putting too much weight on 200 good but not amazing PA above A+. Marisnick is further off, but is a genuine 5-tool talent; but I think if you’re the Royals, you’d be happy with Marisnick’s results for Starling next year.

by gabrielsyme on Nov 27, 2025 1:14 PM EST up reply actions

To finish that Starling thought

Starling & Marisnick are similar types, 5-tool centre fielders. Because Marisnick was young for his draft class, and Starling is old for his, they’re only about 16 months apart, so Starling’s 2012 will be the same age as Marisnick’s 2011. Now, if Starling were to put up Marisnick’s line next season in full-season A ball, I’d be shocked if anyone then thought Starling had taken a step back as a prospect.

So where do people think Starling’s advantage comes from? Better tools, or more likely to stick in CF?

by gabrielsyme on Nov 27, 2025 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

This is a great point

He may have better tools and more likely to stick in CF, but he’s also pretty raw offensively. I really don’t see how you can put Starling ahead of Marisnick.

by gatling on Nov 27, 2025 5:24 PM EST up reply actions

Perhaps I shouldn’t have put it quite so strongly, because I think I would rank Starling ahead of Marisnick on the basis of stronger tools. But I don’t see how there’s much separation between the two of them.

by gabrielsyme on Nov 27, 2025 6:56 PM EST up reply actions

Starling does have louder tools

but how far away is he from actualizing them in games compared to Marisnick? The age difference isn’t very large as you point out, so while the ceiling is higher with Starling I don’t think it’s enough higher to completely overcome the advantage Marisnick has in polish and turning tools to skills.

Grandal, Lee, Marinsick, Olt

I am much lower on Cuthbert - needs more power for someone already stuck at 3B. I like the increase in BB% and decrease in K%, but that doesn’t seem to be enough to put him in the top 25 for position prospects. Care to enlighten me SHS? What am I missing?

by cookiedabookie on Nov 27, 2025 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

Olt would likely be 5th or 6th after those 4, looks like Grandal's got it, we're generous to catchers this year.
