Jean Segura

didn’t get to vote for him in last time

getting too discredited for his injury; his early numbers looked great, rebounded well in the AFL, all with positive reports on his D with the shift to SS

this time, next year, will be a top 10 lock

RE

I’d rather have Yelich, Marte and Middlebrooks over most of the players recieving votes now. By a wide margin.

as a Pirates fan, I’m still really confused about Marte.

Any comments?

Sure, I'll be brief though. Doing work.

He has a fantastic swing, his BB rate isn’t low because he is a hacker (think Montero not Soriano) and he’ll play amazing defense in CF. So, plus bat, plus D, only question mark is how much power. And I think it’ll be at least average, maybe better.

Thanks

that was what I’ve pegged him as, but far from an expert.

So as a follow up (hopefully I’m not putting words in your mouth) Marte doesn’t have poor plate discipline; He just doesn’t need to walk because he swings the bat so well at the level he’s at?

Put another way, hypothetically, when pitchers he faces become more challenging, Marte will have the ability to lay off pitches and see his walk rate increase?

This List Became a Joke a Long Time Ago

Specifically, when you put Yonder Alosnso at # 12. Yelich isn’t top 21 but Alonso is top 12? Seriously, guys, don’t quit your day jobs.

by HeavyHitter on Nov 30, 2025 6:44 PM EST reply actions

ha

Yelich. If he was on the list instead of Yonder, on the overall list spots 20-50 would be all pitchers.

by auclairkeithbc on Nov 30, 2025 6:50 PM EST up reply actions

that is such an over reaction on your part

and that is coming from someone that likes yonder. i must admit that i am a little disappointed with how the list has shaped up thus far, but that is to be expected when the community puts a list together. yelich is every bit the prospect that marisnick or bubba is.

btw, just curious if others in the community think that franklin is getting love now because he hit so well in the rising stars game. last year was great — one of only two 20/20 guys in the minors I believe — but i don’t understand how he isn’t being held back by his injuries a la segura.

by Los Gueros on Nov 30, 2025 7:20 PM EST up reply actions

no

People never overestimate a guy based on a very small sample of actually witnessing his play.

by mrkupe on Nov 30, 2025 7:48 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

Uhhh

The overreaction is that the list is a joke because we have one hitter in a certain spot, that is apparently far different from where he has that hitter ranked. Personally, I don’t have Lindor in my overall top 50, but he’s just outside the top 25 on our list. That doesn’t make the list a joke though.

And honestly, Yelich is likely to be around hitting prospect #30, and let’s say HeavyHitter had the power to place Yelich at #12 on the hitter list, up for a vote somewhere around #20 overall, it is quite clear, that if everyone voted on each matchup independently (not voting for a hitter just to move the list along), Yelich would end up somewhere pretty far back of where Alonso ended up. Maybe not quite #50, but later than #35 anyway.

by auclairkeithbc on Nov 30, 2025 7:55 PM EST up reply actions

this

I’m sure everyone has a problem with certain guys being on the list already. You don’t really contribute anything if you start out with “this list became a joke when x got on at #y…”

by PrincetonCubs on Dec 1, 2025 10:35 AM EST up reply actions

I like Nick Franklin & Jean Segura

I prefer Franklin as a potentially special offensive player offensively as a MI though & am confident on him as an acceptable defensive SS (with enough bat to move to 3b as an ok fallback). I think both will probably rise next year in the estimations of others assuming health & Segura isn’t far off for me (closer than George Springer, Josh Bell or Christian Yelich to namecheck a few).

by Matt0330 on Nov 30, 2025 9:04 PM EST up reply actions

Christian Yelich, Alonso

I like Yelich fine (he’s in my next 10-12) but I’m not really sold on his power potential to the degree a lot of folks seem to be. I’m an advocate of his oft overlooked athleticism but even I don’t think he’s a probable CF. So a not improbable ‘Loney-esque’ guy (sweet swing, long frame, dubious power) who will quite possibly be in LF t& hat is a few years away is a superior prospect to Yonder Alonso? We agree to disagree & that’s fine but I don’t think you need to cast simplistic aspersions willy nilly without any real explanation. Who does that help?
