Community Positional Prospect #14
After 24 hours with 26.1% of the vote, Francisco Lindor has been elected Community Positional Prospect #13.
Lindor only won by a 3 vote margin which might be good enough to move him along for some people, but in the 3-Way Runoff for Positional Prospect #12, using the 2nd place votes of Alonso voters as 1st place votes for Lindor/Starling, Lindor won that runoff 32-29 as well. With a 4.4% margin of victory in this poll, and a 5.0% margin of victory in that runoff, I feel it is safe to move Lindor along. I prefer Starling and voted for him in both polls, but it just doesn't make sense to do another runoff.

Didn’t know you could vote off-list.
My bad.
Was actually going to ask why Springer’s on this list over Singleton.

Sorry
The way we do it is to list 10 players to vote for. But you can vote for anyone you want. Some people stick to the list, because people off the list are pretty unlikely to get enough support to win, and the players that are already in the rotation (meaning they’ve already been in the poll at some point and didn’t get a ton of support), are definitely going to get back on the voting list within a couple polls.
Some people just vote for their #1 guy even if they are the only ones voting for him and the player isn’t listed - they do this in the OTHERS section, but posting the player’s name and replying +1. Someone did that for Choice, Castellanos, and Cuthbert, and two people (plus you) did it for Springer. That is perfectly fine. It is more or less a statement vote. But if you are ready to vote for someone in the “Testers” list, like Singleton who hasn’t been on the poll officially yet, it could certainly help him to be added sooner than later.

Does anyone have any favorites among the current testers?
Garin Cecchini, Jonathan Singleton, Jedd Gyorko, Oswaldo Arcia, Ryan Lavarnway, Jean Segura, Billy Hamilton, Gary Brown, Will Middlebrooks, Starling Marte, Tim Wheeler, Kolten Wong
I am going to do my best to add the players people in past threads have expressed interest in getting on the poll, but in most cases, only 1 or 2 people have really supported any individual player’s candidacy as a tester. I keep looking back at past threads, but if you want to name or re-name a few players from this group (or from outside the group), that you like best (not in the rotation yet), that would help a lot. A top 3 or 5 would be helpful, as would anything.

Lavarnway
Seems close to the majors and hit brilliantly last year. Gyorko and Segura seem close to next in line.
by JRMayne on Nov 19, 2025 9:57 PM EST up reply actions
I did post him as a tester
but I like Lavarnway the best too, people say he can’t stick at catcher but his caught stealing rate is better than Devin Mesoraco and Travis D’arnaud. His FRAA is basically the same as Mesoraco and D’arnauds.
Go to claydavenport.com if you want minor league fielding stats, FRAA is right after where it shows you the position and amount of games played at position.

next five not in ratation
Mikie Mahtook: Tremendously underrated in my opinion. First, the skills: He can hit, he is strong and has nice power and, will take a walk - defensively he is good in CF and, could be real gold glover as a RF. He also plays the game hard and, with passion. I think he’s a good big leaguer.
Jon Singleton
Kolten Wong
Ryan Lavarnway: This guy is a good prospect even if he isn’t a Catcher. He is for real as a hitter.
Gary Brown
Not a fan of Hamilton, Wheeler and Arcia as future big leaguers. Ceccini is intriging but . . .

Hmm
Is it really that out of line to think that Anthony Gose has a good chance to end up a better major league player than Bubba Starling?
I’m not really anti-Bubba. I just have no idea how real his ability to swing the bat is. His progress is going to real interesting to watch, come April. Reports I’ve read and, logic says the Midwest League is where he will start the year but, he didn’t get to play a lot this year in HS then, got injured early in instructs. He needs lots of at-bats and, maybe some patience.

You are asking whether
Gose’s floor is higher than Starling’s? Probably.
by auclairkeithbc on Nov 19, 2025 7:26 PM EST up reply actions
Not exactly
I was asking “Who is going to turn out better?” I completely understand the concept that Gose has a higher floor, I just think that the guy with the higher floor usually has a higher ceiling as well. Looking at proepcts can be infinetly complex. I play poker everyday and, there are so many parallels.

not at all
Starling has more upside with the bat, but isn’t nearly as close to realizing it. Defensively it’s hard to say until Starling actually gets on the field, but hard to see him being in Gose’s league there (70 glove CF w/70 arm).
I’m a pretty big Starling skeptic until we get a better feel for where he’s at in terms of baseball skills. There were questions about his bat last year, to the point where I recall some buzz that there were scouts who liked him more as a pitcher. It seemed like a lot of that was glossed over in favor of his raw athleticism this year. The Royals haven’t said much about where he’s starting next year, but I’m under the impression you don’t give a kid $7M+ if you don’t think he’s going to be ready to handle getting everyday ABs in a full-season league the next year. If they hold him back, that may be a telling sign.
The upside is tremendous; he could come out next year and blow everybody away. Or, he could end up with a mediocre statistical season in short-season.

Lindor was on way to early for me
It is based purely on projection, and it looks like the community have ranked him about the same as Machado last year. I don’t know if anyone thought he was going to rank this high after the draft, and what really has changed since then other than some reports with no performance to corroborate. I had him at 22 myself.
by cookiedabookie on Nov 19, 2025 9:46 PM EST up reply actions
Interesting that you say that CDB
When there was about the same information available to make Machado’s ranking and, his average rank in the top lists last year was 19th. A bit higher than Lindor will go.
I think this list so far is the best of both worlds; guys who have some restraint before ranking a prospect high and, those who are perhaps more influenced by the fantasy leagues they play in and go for it on a prospect with upside.
I think if Lindor is ranked what 25th or 26th (overall) on this list or, wherever, that is more likely to look low than high in a year from today, just like Machado. We’ll see though.

Lindor and Machado are totally different players
Machado was recognized as an all-around ELITE talent when drafted. Superb bat speed, contact ability, and baseball instincts that put him in a tier above most middle infield draftees. Lindor has good offensive potential and all-around skills, but despite being drafted early, his statistical profile is good but not at Machado’s level. Probably closer to Tim Beckham or Christian Colon (despite the age difference) than Machado. Not saying he’ll flame out like they did, but it’s a possiblility.

This is partly the problem I have evaluating these guys
I’ve never seen an analysis of relative prospect value of, say, B guys in AA vs. B guys coming out of the draft. I’m happy with my analysis within levels, but definitely not confident on how to deal with distance from the majors.

There’s a good argument to be made for Lee ahead of Lindor here….fine defense already shown, bat is acceptable, demonstrated OBP skills. Of course, I’m not voting for him here, either.

tough one
I hesitate to go Starling, although he looks like the winner, because he’s just not that polished. I like Bogaerts, and what he did was impressive, but I feel like he’s getting a bit over-hyped. I’m still very curious how Taveras’ bat will play in the upper levels against consistently tougher breaking balls and guys with better command. I want to actually vote Olt, but then a part of me wonders if Olt’s bat is sufficiently better than Brett Jackson’s. I like Rizzo, but is he dominant enough to justify a spot at 14? Don’t like Lee this high, and just can’t see myself voting for Gose here when Brett Jackson is more polished. I think Taveras’ upside and work in MWL gets the nod, but I’m really still waiting to see how good that bat is as he moves up.
by toonsterwu on Nov 20, 2025 10:25 AM EST up reply actions
Well thought out opinion
I agree with pretty much everything you said. I also believe that some of this year’s draftees are getting overhyped, and have Starling at 24 myself.
I am curious on why you have Tavaras above Jackson. Jackson has a much broader skill set and is MLB-ready, while Tavaras is much further away, with what I think are more questions (some of which you allude to) and less defensive abilities.
by cookiedabookie on Nov 20, 2025 4:58 PM EST up reply actions
If you are interested in safer players
I’d rather have Rizzo or Lee than Jackson.
by auclairkeithbc on Nov 20, 2025 5:01 PM EST up reply actions
strikeout rate for Jackson
makes me very worried
i think there’s a high chance he won’t make it in the majors as an everyday player, whereas i think Taveras has a high chance at making it as an everyday player

Starling with 23 votes clearly separated himself from the next group of Taveras (12 votes), Bogaerts (10 votes), Jackson (8 votes), and Rizzo (7 votes).
