Some thoughts
Casey Kelly, Wilmer Flores, and Jose Iglesias all seem way too high
Some players that have been popping up a lot that aren’t here:
Taijuan Walker, Travis D’Arnaud, Matt Harvey, Hak-Ju Lee, Goldschmidt, Zach Lee, Cuthbert, Peacock, etc

Flores doesn't belong anywhere near this list.
He’s young for his level, but regardless of age he still hasn’t done much there to warrant a top 50, or probably even a top 100 spot.
Harvey should be in there. Last night’s start doesn’t count in this but how does 7IP 10K 1BB 1ER look to you?

so the argument is
-Not enough of the guys who show up on everybody else’s list
-Too much of the guys who don’t show up on a lot of other lists
Unless you have concrete proof that there are only 50 good prospects in MiLB, I think a little more liberalism is warranted . . .

How about 44-49?
Archer - huge control problems, poor performance
Flores - poor performance, probably won’t have the bat to play where his defense will let him
Iglesias - atrocious at the plate
Scheppers - reliever
Lamb - broken
Matzek - biggest disappointment in minors this year until last two starts?
The whole second half of this list looks like they wrote it in February. Shit like this on MLB’s own web page is embarrassing.

Aside from Matt Moore and Jurickson Profar moving up, it looks exactly like a February list would

Worst list I’ve seen. It’s like they value name value from the beginning of the season more than anything.

Isn't this Mayo's top 50 before the season started?
He updates his list every month to show how each prospect is progressing. Did we confuse the update to an actual updated top 50 list?

weird list
Top half is alright, but bottom half is pretty ridiculous.
How do you guys generally rate Jonathan Mayo in comparison to other prospect evaluators? I’ve seen him on the MLB Network a few times and he kinda comes across as a dummy who tries to make it appear he knows what he is talking about, but really is full of shit.

Mayo is very knowledgeable
And his “lists” are usually just an averaging of lists that he receives from scouts.

Im pretty sure
This is a preseason list isnt it? How come there isnt a professional evaluator who (communal) we don’t crap all over?
by ADLC on Jul 29, 2025 4:11 PM EDT reply actions
impossible, lol
Since we all have personal favs, and when certain guys are omitted (or placed low), there is an uproar (me included). Its just impossible to make everyone happy. However, this list above did a great job of making a lot of people unhappy. So I guess it is somewhat effective.

This is terrible. Absolutely terrible.
McGee was rated higher than Archer on the Rays top 10 list, but Archer is ahead on this list? What???
Then, the commentary is absolutely awful. Jennings stock is down???
