Banuelos

Threw 40 pitches in the first inning, walking 3.

That’s a little harsh. Forget command, he’s just trying to throw strikes at this point.

Miguel De Los Santos

I don’t know much about this kid but, holy shit he strikes out a lot of guys - 440 in 279 innings over the past six years. Good luck Oscar Taveras, if you are in the lineup :)

He may have the best Changeup in the minors.

Obviously, I haven’t seen him pitch in person or most of the minors, but the reports have always been great on his CU. He made more than a few major league players swing silly during spring training. FB is 89-93. He also throws a CB. You never know if MDLS is going to have any control or not. If the Rangers would move him to the BP, he could move quickly.

I like the 30.9

Any schmo can put up a K/9 of 36.0 but putting up a K/9 of 30.9 is a real accomplishment.

(Seriously, I wouldn’t be surprised if no one had ever had a K/9 of 30.9 at any point in the season, or at least no AAA pitcher. Or at least no AAA pitcher since they stopped making the tight end punt or whatever.)

by WHYG Zane Smith on Apr 12, 2025 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

right

He managed to pull off the 4 K inning in his first game, struck out the only guy he faced in his second game, and then went HR, BB, HR, 3 Ks in his third game. Even in 2.1 innings that’s an insane start to the season.

by dbacksfaninGA on Apr 12, 2025 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Glad to see a good start from him

I’m still worried that he might not be 100% healthy. Got skipped for a start in ST with elbow soreness and really hasn’t been the same pitcher since July 31 last season with his control seemingly leaving him. Hopefully I’m just making mountains out of molehills.

by nixa37 on Apr 13, 2025 8:08 AM EDT up reply actions

you dont even want to think about elbow soreness and control issues

hopefully it was just soreness affecting his game

by pedrophile on Apr 13, 2025 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Durability has always been my one true worry with him

I actually really like his mechanics from what I’ve seen recently, but the early arm issues when he first came to America and the fact he’s never really proven he can shoulder a large load were always concerning. I’m at the point now where I think TJS is an eventuality. I just hope he’s able to make it a few more seasons so that he’s mostly finished developing by the time it happens.

by nixa37 on Apr 13, 2025 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions

TJ in the middle of development would be terrible

But I hate when teams push players to pitch with a tear. One of the big problems is that doctors inadvertently backup the teams philosophy.

by pedrophile on Apr 13, 2025 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions

It's a tough decision to make

If you take Arodys Vizcaino for instance, I think he benefited quite a bit from pushing back TJS and further developing. However, I know there are many examples of a guy sitting out for a while only to return and almost immediately re-injure the elbow and undergo surgery.

I guess I don’t see why he wasn’t ranked in the 50-100 range before. I mean he was the 3rd HS arm taken in one of the sickest drafts in a long time. Only HS arms before him were Bundy and Bradley. Pretty good company for his age. His stuff is the real deal. I could see him being in the 30-50 range in midseason.

by Mike Kaluk on Apr 12, 2025 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions

you'll get no argument here

It’s hard to find a scouting report on him that doesn’t sound really, really good. I’m just saying that it would be funny to see him go from completely off the radar screen to the upper tier of top prospects after two starts.

At the rate he is going, it would be surprising if he didn’t end up as one of the top 50 (and possibly significantly better than that) prospects in the game before the end of the year. But it is early and a lot of guys with strong starts are going to come back to the ground.

curious about his velo

generally in the past been more 90-91, but has a big frame. A nice start to the season regardless

by hybrid on Apr 13, 2025 4:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

His velo reports kept me from getting too hyped coming into the year. But then, Alen Hanson’s lack of pop last year kept me light on him, and he could be in for quite a year.

amazing.

I saw the line earlier right away firgured well ok maybe 2 intentional walk AT LEAST 1 right?

Nope all earned walks. Kid knows how important a walk is to the Twins i guess, learned fast.

that reported seeing him recently and being really impressed by the quality of Sano’s ABs. He went in expecting ‘grip it and rip it’, but was pleasantly surprised. Unless I imagined it.

I want to like Scott

But unless he can keep hitting for an elite average, he’s just a 4th OF. His contact rate, patience and speed are impressive, but his total lack of power is rough. Hopefully he can add a little pop because one XBH all year just won’t cut it.

looks like he was picked too low

even at 43. I remember he was on my short list for players to draft at 51 for the Yanks in last year’s community mock (which I can’t wait to do again this year).

by cookiedabookie on Apr 13, 2025 6:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Well,

he was a short-ish pitcher in a so-so conference coming off TJ with some effort remaining in his delivery in a very good draft class (whew). I spent a lot of time pimping him last year, and I thought that was an impressive slot considering the competition.

by charles wallace on Apr 13, 2025 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions

the other thing is

It’s a little early to be saying that he was picked too high or too low. Organizations aren’t picking guys based on what they can do in their first couple of pro starts, or even their first couple of pro years . . .they’re looking at what they think these guys can/will do at 25, 26, 27 years old. I understand that such patience isn’t really a trait shown in more informal prospecting circles, but it’s something that needs to be recognized to understand the perspectives and decision-making processes of the guys who get paid the $$$.

There is a chance for top 50 or 25, sure. But I don’t see a big year for Trevor.

He's already having a big year AK

I thuink he’s certainly top 30 or so, at least on my list.
