It’s about results. This guy does nothing but deliver quality starts with some nice K’s. Pitching in Petco and other large NL-West stadiums (LA, SF) will only help his transition to the major leagues.

Where he pitches has nothing to do with his prospect status

i think i've said this before

and actually possibly to you

but your statement is only true if you don’t believe that pitchers parks are better at developing young pitchers because it protects their psyche

by blue bulldog on Nov 26, 2025 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

Completely disagree

There is no guarantee that Erlin pitches for the Padres, he could be traded away before ever reaching the majors. Trying to add value to a prospect based on the home park they might play in is ridiculous. Would you downgrade him similarly if he was still in the Rangers system? You shouldn’t, but maybe you would, I don’t know.

by gatling on Nov 26, 2025 11:25 PM EST up reply actions

i think the effect is marginal

and probably wouldn’t downgrade him too much

still everything is a probability of a probability. he has some chance at pitching for the Padres (very high, at least 80% in my mind). he has some chance at being an effective pitcher. pitching at Petco has some chance at enabling him to develop in a way that pitching in Arlington would not have.

i think you are lying to yourself, if you don’t recognize the above points.

by blue bulldog on Nov 26, 2025 11:53 PM EST up reply actions

I recognize those points

but I’m not sure they’re the positives you’re trying to make them. Pitching in a place like Petco lets a pitcher get away things they can’t get away with elsewhere. I’m not sure that’s exactly a good thing for a young pitcher, it’s easier to develop bad habits. I don’t know that those things apply to Erlin, as he’s a determined guy who I expect to succeed regardless of his environment. I don’t see a reason to give him a bump in my prospect rankings because of his good fortune when it comes to a potential home park.

Delgado vs Bradley

Seems like it will come down to one of these two. Just wondering if anyone who voted for either can post their argument for who they voted for and against the other. I am a bit surprised Bradley is doing this good so soon, but I am a bit more conservative on HS arms with no pro experience than others. But what is the argument for Bradley and against Delgado? Delgado has proven success in the high minors, and made it the majors at age 21. Do those voting for Archie honestly see him being successful in AA/AAA and reaching the majors by 2014, based solely on projection? I could see that argument for Bundy, or even Taillon last year, but not seeing it for Bradley. Is there something I am missing, Archie-advocates? Or is it just a different philosophy in projection vs. MLB-readiness?

by cookiedabookie on Nov 25, 2025 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

A little of both, I think

First, a lot of what people percieve as risk, I just don/t worry about as much and, I think there are others that feel the same. I think a good way to look at it, is to also think of the risk involved in missing on a stud player, just becuase one thought he was far away or, might get injured.

You are right that, in general, that high school kids can and do get injured on the way up but, what I’d be looking at is reasons that Bradley, specifically, is going to get injured. I look at is as things can happen to pitchers from all sides or, at any time, with young pitchers. Also,I don’t even see what someone being closer to the majors has to do with the question of, who is going to have a better career?

I’m probably not helping a lot I guess. I’ve only seen a few vid clips of Bradley but, he looked big and his fastball and arm speed were impressive. I guess a large part of the love for him here is that were reports that some teams liked him nearly as much as his OK rival, Bundy, He was taken 7th overall in a very strong draft, and was taken by a team that seems to have the midas touch right now.

Being closer to the majors means there is more certainty that player can be productive or more in the majors. Bradley still has a lot of proving to do.

bbprospectreport interviewed Archie in June

Impossible not to like this Oklahoma native once you hear his thoughts. He’s a baseball rat who thrived in a football state in part by developing a friendly rivalry with Bundy, against whom Archie has competed since he was 8!
I like what casejud said about Arizona having a midas touch but I think Bradley has enough going for him (even as a high school kid) that he’d still be a good bet to succeed elsewhere.
I think of Bradley as Bundy-light:)
