OT: KBR reminds you to remember those less fortunate

The Christmas season is upon us, so I would like to remind everyone not to forget the charities that mean something to you. While many of us are lucky to have everything we need, there are many out there who are less fortunate. So this holiday season why don't you donate to a charity that means something important to you or give to a family that will wake up with nothing beneath their Christmas tree. Many of us on this site have been blessed with the gifts we have earned or been given so I urge you to give back.

Well said. If anyone wants to promote a charity, please list and why you support that charity.

I support two charities through donations and volunteering

1. Canadian Cancer Survivor - In 2008 I was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer which is what Lance Armstrong had. THey removed my left testicle and performed surgery to remove a small piece of my lung. When I finished the surgeries and chemotherapy I decided to go work for the Cancer Society. These people do great work raising money to fund research and helping people get to and from their cancer related medical appointments. When I left the Cancer Society to go back to school I chose to stay on as a peer support volunteer to help other young men fighting this disease. It is a great cause and is in desperate need for donations.

2. Big Brothers and BIg Sisters - There are many kids who come from tough family situations who do not have a mother or father figure in their lives. These kids often turn to crime and drugs as they get older. Donating time and money to this charity allows them to partner more children with a role model. I have found mentoring to be incredibly rewarding and I am sure many of you would to!!

For a great way to give a little bit everyday

Check out www.philanthoper.com

Every day, they ask you to give $1 to a pre-screened charity. Small donations can add up to big change.

Absolutely great premise

Enjoy charity at this time of year, but be very wary to ensure where your money is going. There are misleading groups everywhere. For example, I gladly donate and volunteer for the local Humane Society, but I would never give a dime to the national/international organization because of their use of national funds to fight farmers and ranchers.

Hey! I’m new.
