If we could draft now

who would you draft 1st if they were all draft eligible cespedes, Rendon , cole, bundy, yu darvish, or Bauer ?

I would go with Rendon. He is young, high upside and low downside.

.;......;.……Thought???????????

cespedes is a high risk guy and I recall how dice k was the next great SP

Cole seems to have most upside, Bauer safest sp and bundy good mix

Cant wait for spring Ball ball strike. 75 word min is challenging

I think Hultzen should be in discussion as well.

Showed great in AFL, high ceiling and could be in the rotation to break Spring training.

Hultzen

He did look great in the AFL. I’ve never seen him pitch but the reports indicate safe #3 upside #2.
Agree he should be in discussion.

Yes, easily so to me.

Rendon.

I might even be tempted by Cespedes.

Darvish

Others aren’t even that close in my mind.

Not close?

What give darish the clear edge in your mind?
Most of the “prof evaluators” say #2 type. The other are likely to have more upside

by zeuspower on Dec 18, 2025 7:38 AM EST up reply actions

re

because he’s young, has great stuff, and has dominated what most consider AAA caliber for 7 years.
The other haven’t proven anything on the pro level yet and are more of a gamble.
As a Dbacks fan, coming off the NL West title, if I picked one I’d go Darvish because he’d be a sure bet to be at least our #2 or #3 guy and get us back to the playoffs in 2012

B & B

Leaning towards Bauer/Bundy combo.

Rendon

I think he’s the safest pick with highest floor and high ceiling as well.

Rendon's AFL stats concern me

Not actually affiliated with whygavs.

Give me Darvish

One thing I struggle with in prospect rankings is there is a time value to these guys. Whatever the upside is of a Bundy or Cole, the point is that Darvish will have positively impact a major league team in 2012 and I don’t believe the perceived higher upside of the other pitchers is enough to offset the guarantee Darvish contributes (and this shouldn’t be debatable, he will contribute, how much is the debate). This is the same reason I have Bauer ahead of Cole FWIW.

In a pure ranking, I go Darvish, Cespedes, Rendon, Bauer, Bundy, Cole.

Bauer

Rendon’s shoulder worries me more than it probably should, I just feel like Bauer is one of those rare guys that has a high floor and ceiling at the same time.

Darvish reviews

I posted this before all the Darvish reviews. Kevin Goldstein interviewed GM’s about who SP they would prefer. Darvish tied Greinke 5-5 and beat Garza 7-3

Japanese players have such a poor history in mlb, it does concern me.

Yu Darvish tied Zack Greinke?

Who just turned 28 & averaged almost 11 K/9 in 170 plus IP for ‘the good land’ (it’s Algonquin) in 2011? Very surprising.

If the Greinke owner in your league feels similarly, I would draft Darvish, offer him SU for Greinke & not look back.

People need to stop using Daisuke's failures as a reason to not pick Darvish

Yes, they are both Asian and pitched in the NPB. I’m pretty sure 99.99% of you don’t use David Aardsma as a comparison to Roy Halladay, just because they are both Caucasian and from Colorado.

Yes Daisuke was not the greatest thing since sliced bread like he was predicted to be, but Darvish is nothing like Daisuke was.

I would easily take Darvish number 1. I’d take him over Matt Moore. When is the last time an American prospect dominated a level to the tune of 200 IP, 240+ K’s and a sub 2 FIP? That’s what Darvish has done, but because he’s Asian, people automatically make absurd Daisuke comparisons.

If you want to say dumb things, you can't get mad when I call you dumb.
