Rating last year's rookies-Community Prospect #15

Paul Goldschmidt handily wins round 14.  With Thansgiving done I'll also try to get back to a minimum or one round a day.  Our winners so far include:

1.  Brett Lawrie, 3b Toronto Blue Jays (51%)

2,  Eric Hosmer, 1b Kansas City Royals (57%)

3.  Michael Pineda, P Seattle Mariners (38%)

4.  Dustin Ackley, 2b Seattle Mariners (41%)

5. Desmond Jennings, of Tampa Bay Rays (47%)

6. Jeremy Hellickson, P Tampa Bay Rays  (49%)

7. Freddie Freeman, 1B Atlanta Braves (45%)

8. Brandon Beachy, P Atlanta Braves (27%)

9. Brandon Belt, OF/!B San Francisco Giants (33%)

10. Mike Moustakas, 3b Kansas City Royals (38%)

11. Domonic Brown, of Philadelphia Phillies (32%) (70% runoff)

12. Jason Kipnis, 2b Cleveland Indians 29%

13. Cory Luebke, P San Diego Padres 19% (59% runoff)

14. Paul Goldschmidt, 1b Arizona Diamondbacks 26%

Star-divide

The voting breakdown after Goldschmidt was: Danny Espinosa 18%, Aroldis Chapman 9%, Craig Kimbrel 9%,  Chris Sale 9%, Wilson Ramos 6%, Mike Minor 6%, Kenley Jansen 0%, Salvador Perez 3% (write in), Allen Craig 3% (write in), Lucas Duda 0%, Zach Britton 0%

I'm going to keep everyone on the ballot who got at least 5% of the vote, and drop everyone who didn't, so we'll drop Lucas Duda, Henderson Alvarez, Kenley Jansen and Zach Britton.   We'll rotate back in Jose Altuve, Ivan Nova and Danny Duffy.

In rotation: Jordan Walden 0% (round 11), JD Martinez 0% (round 11), Mark Trumbo 0% (round 12), Jemile Weeks 0% (round 12), Kyle Drabek 0% (round 12),  Salvador Perez 3% (round 13), Vance Worley 0% (round 13, Ben Revere 0% (round 13), Josh Collmenter 0% (round 13), Henderson Alvarez 3% (round 14), Kenley Jansen 0% (round 14), Lucas Duda 0% (round 14), Zach Britton 0% (round 14)

We'll give Dayan Viciedo his first time on the ballot this round, leaving as future testers:

Juan Nicasio Alex CobbJordan Lyles, Alan Craig, Mke Carp, Jerry Sands and Aaron Crow.

As always voting is by +1 and there are places below to suggest testers or vote for players not currently on the ballot.  I've already decided that Craig is going on the ballot next round and am considering adding a second tester next round as well.  Any suggestions, either among those listed or someone else?

Also, I am probably planning on taking this out to 25 rounds and then stopping, so with 14 rounds in the books, 10 on the ballot this round, 13 more in rotation, and 7 more testers lined up that is already 30 players under consideration for 111 more spots.  So, while I am open to adding additional testers, consider, when suggesting one, whether you could see yourself seriously considering voting for that player over the next 10 rounds.

So who is your number 15 prospect for future performance among last year's rookies?

4. Joe Mauer, 2004, .308
5. Ted Simmons, 1971, .304

Highest OPS By Catcher, min: 100 PA, Age 21 or Less
1. Joe Mauer, 2004, .939
2. Johnny Bench, 1969, .840
3. Salvador Perez, 2011, .834
4. Jiggs Donahue, 1901, .826
5. Darrell Porter, 1973, .820

Plus opne, and good stuff

His minor league numbers are only superficially unimpressive also. Thety look beter the closer you look. He is actually similar in that regard to Wilson Ramos, another guy who is getting underrated here, in my opinion.

currently tied between Kimbrel and Espinosa

We will be driving home today. When I get back tonight I will put up a new round or a runoff as needed. Maybe a few more votes will trickle in today and decide it. We’ll see.
