Zach Stewart recalled from Triple-A

A couple years ago, John said he may like him more than Drabek.  He did go back on that on the 2011 lists saying his stock dropped a little, but still rated him a B+, still way more bullish than most other prospectors who saw him more of an average arm.  He hasn't been all that great in Triple A, with a 4.39 ERA and 49/21 K/BB in 69 2/3 innings, but he still has a pretty decent groundball rate (1.21 GO/AO).  Do you think he'll be able to make an impact on the major league level, and does he still have the promise John envisioned for him?

He's a very good arm,

not sure that he’s a starter long-term though.

His fastball/slider combo is closer worthy.

Interesting

Should be an interesting guy to watch. His stuff looked damn good when I saw one of his spring outings, but he’s been pretty mediocre this year. He has started to miss more bats lately… perhaps they had him focusing on developing his change or something.

I am pretty surprised the Jays went with him over Cecil.

how has Cecil been lately?

more specifically, has he been able to regain his velo lately?

No idea

He’s finally started to get some ground outs in his last handful of outings so I think that’s a good sign for his fastball/command. The HRs are pretty ridiculous, but some of that can be attributed to pitching in Las Vegas.

His velocity has been much better

Reports out of Toronto are that his velocity is back to where it was last year.

Mills

has been really solid too, and I thought he might be next in the queue. I think your ST observations are the most recent I’ve heard, Jeff, and I’ve kept them in the back of my mind even while he was struggling a bit. I hope he’s up to the challenge.

I wouldn't

I don’t think its guaranteed he sticks as a starter and think it might even be likely he ends up in the pen, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he stuck as a starter.

has the stuff to be a starter

Just as much as Drabek does. I’d be very surprised if he ends up in the pen, as reports are his change-up has improved over the last month.
