July 2 Signings
The Phillies strike first, snagging Dominican OF Jose Pujols for $540,000, per Ben Badler.
Badler ranked Pujols #20 on his international prospects list.
Can't help but wonder how much the kid would have gotten paid last year.

Blue Jays were busy
Luis Castro, and Franklin Barreto … BA’s 1 and 9 ranked international prospects… They can not have much money left… unless they are going all in …..

Given the spending cap, I think it's safe to say everyone is going all in
All in just ain’t what it used to be.
No word yet on bonuses for Castro or Barretto, but Barretto was rumored to be looking at close to $2 million on his own.

Maybe he means "all in" as in...
The Jays are Willing to give up draft picks, to sign a lot of IFA guys.
"I couldn't do that. Could you do that? Why can they do it? Who are those guys?"

you're probably right
i forgot that was even an option, honestly

C Luis Torrens to the Yankees for $1.3 million
as predicted by BA, #2 on their list.

Not a bad price
Leaves them with a good amt of money for other targets, one of which is presumably Wendell Rijo.

Just saw Gustavo Cabrera to SF, also for $1.3MM
They’ve also signed another DPL kid, Nataniel Javier, who didn’t make Badler’s Top 20 but is a solid-looking player.

Minier to MIN as projected
That’s a nice get. Needs to refine the bat, but he’s a physical specimen who should stick at 3B.

lot of work to do on pitch recognition. Powerful stroke as of now though.
And he’s built well for that age….makes me wonder….
+ he got 1.4 Million and was ranked 12th on BA’s list…..something is out of order here.
:(

Almost all of these guys
need work on pitch recognition to be honest. Minier is built like a baby bull, and should add positive mass as he matures. He’s a project, but again, all of these kids are to a signficant degree. Not a lot of sure things.

The ranks and pay never line up
Jose Leal didn’t even make BA’s top 30 last year and the M’s gave him $1.925 M.
Not that this is news to anyone, but it’s not close to an exact science.

Hoping that Barreto and Castro to Jays
means the Reds still have a shot at Urena.

Jesse Sanchez reported
The Jays “closing in on” Urena for $725K. Barreto+Castro+Urena would seem to be a nice haul

That sounds about right
for Urena price-wise. That would be a very nice haul if they get it done.

Jays also supposedly have signed Jose Castillo according to ESPN
No idea how this is supposed to all add up.
by TtD on Jul 4, 2025 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions
You've probably seen
the comments section under the Urena signing at BA where Badler has heard Jays did not sign Castillo.

I'm beginning to wonder...
…if maybe a smart but cheap team like the Braves is watching all of this big spending on a few players and just waiting for an unsigned kid to show development in the fall or winter so they can sign him with relatively little competition.
by rlwhite on Jul 2, 2025 12:50 PM EDT reply actions
I was thinking the same thing
Save most of the cap room and be the only buyer come fall and winter, possibly even spring.
by pedrophile on Jul 2, 2025 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions
This might play out a little bit like draft and follow.

BA shows Braves
signing a Yeralf Torres. I’m not familiar with him, and no price was given.

scouting report
I’m only giving the snippet here because it’s premium, but…
“6-foot-1, 165-pound righthander from Venezuela. He has a bit of drop-and-drive in his delivery, good arm strength and reaches the low-90s with a lively fastball. Some think he could end up becoming a power pitcher. He throws a mid-70s curveball that’s ahead of his changeup, though his secondaries and his control will have to improve.”
I don’t have the price either, but I don’t expect 7 figures like a lot of the kids are getting today.
by rlwhite on Jul 2, 2025 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions
More like the Mariners
who are conspicuously quiet so far. Of course, their purported #1 target doesn’t become eligible to sign until July 31.

In a shocker
Los Gigantes snag Gustavo Cabrera. As a vocal critic of their latest draft, I have to applaud them for going big. Good job Giants!

I would think
Giants fans would have an allergy to big-money international signings. SFO’s front office has done about as poorly on “big name” signings as anyone.

All 2 of them, yes, a poor record. Good for them to get back on that horse.

$800,000 for Palma
Also $650,000 for SS Yancarlos Baez. That leaves them about $150,000 in their allotted bonus pool, or about $300,000 if they want to go 5% over and pay the tax.

by lemonjello on Jul 2, 2025 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions
Hmmm
Baez is a solid pick-up too. Bat and long term strength are in question, but he should stick at SS.

no Dodgers signings?
"How about this f@$%in team right here"
by Pure Azure on Jul 2, 2025 2:49 PM EDT reply actions
FWIW from the LAD beat writer Dylan Hernandez
Dodgers signed pitchers Lenix Osuna, Victor Gonzalez, William Soto, and catcher Julian Leon. Osuna, a 16-year-old right-hander from Mexico, is the son of former Dodger pitcher Antonio Osuna, who went 24-21 with a 3.28 ERA in 265 relief appearances with Los Angeles over six seasons from 1995-2000. Gonzalez, a 16-year-old left-hander, also hails from Mexico, while Soto, a 16-year-old right-hander, was signed from Venezuela. Leon is a 16-year-old catcher out of Mexico.
The team spent around $1 million on the four players.

Wendell Rijo still out there
Wondering if those thinking he’d be better off healing his knee and trying to get more money later in the year after he’s had a chance to work out are on to something.

To complement our Draft Signing Tracker, 85% Sports has set up an International Free Agent Tracker. We are updating it daily with all of the signings, reported bonuses, and team’s spending against the pool.
I’d appreciate any info or promotion that anyone would like to throw our way. There are a lot of players that don’t have bonuses listed yet.
