Richards getting some early help from Mike Trout (grand slam in the 2nd) and the rest of his offense.

I think he’s a major sleeper.

..& he isn’t going tonight (second start for Alex Colome). Anyone have any knowledge?

Pretty good outings by a lot of the names ventured though -

Nicasio: 0 earned runs & 6K in 5 innings

CBM: 5 shutout innings (5K:2B, 2 H)

Bettis: 7 K & 1 BB in 5.2 IP (3 ER)

Mendez: 5K & 1 ER in 5 IP (2 baserunners)

I’m a believer in Andy Oliver & think he’s a bit overlooked in a macro sense sometimes.

His velocity from the left side is very impressive (sits around 93-94 if I’m not mistaken) & I think he’ll be a solid major league starter if/when he firms up his control. It looks as though he’s on his way if his first two starts are to be construed as any sort of indicator.

I did some looking for it yesterday and couldnt find anything. I am guessing he is going to be a Short Season ball so wouldnt start until June. Would love some insight from someone that follows the Twins or has the know on this.

The name rings a bell. He sounds like he might have some talent.

It’s kind of annoying how consistent their prospect pipeline is.

I could get an actual legitimate source to tell me about his arm. I’ve seen people claiming its below-average to others saying its plus-plus.

Personally, I saw him a few times and it looked really good, I’m just not sure how good.

With everything that you said really. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that he ‘dominated’ the NY-P league, but I’d say it’s fair that he was one of the top 5-6 pitchers on the circuit last summer behind Jake Thompson & (in my opinion) a couple of others. He was very thin last year but he has some potential to be sure (good offspeed stuff already @ Auburn in ’10). If memory serves, he got a pretty nice bonus out of HS for a mid-late round pick & Toronto has to be pleased so far.

Every player who has ever had a 3 K game at single A ball has been a bust. Fact.

& already in full season ball where he is (I think) a year & a half younger than the teammate who is closest to him in age? I think he’ll be fine - his natural power is prodigious & I don’t think he necessarily ages as a guy who strikes out an absolute ton either.

Jason (Austin): Does anybody have Harper’s kind of 80 power in the draft this year?


Jim Callis: No. I think Harper is the best power prospect in draft history. Everyone else can line up behind him.

Any idea when he should be in the Majors, hybrid?

dude has looked impressive thus far.

I likely severely underrated this guy even in the face of no professional data sample. He seemed like the type that was likely to end up in short relief but I don’t think I realized how much his command had actually improved & the strides that were made late in his college career. I’m pretty inrigued to hear more on him as well.

Well, at least I probably hit on Aaron Crow.

I like Kyle Heckathorn quite a bit too. There are a plethora of intriguing pitchers in the FSL this April.

Him and Enny Romero are the A level helium dudes for me.

This kid oozed potential last summer in Lowell & he throws very hard. I’m still surprised Boston was so receptive to giving him up last summer.

the k/b ratio didnt look awesome again….and the round rock guys werent having trouble throwing strikes

with a robust 1.349 OPS so far, 7BB 5K. Owning the Texas league.

But let’s see how he hits at Wolf stadium, I guess.

On the one hand, Whitenack didn’t walk many guys and didn’t give up many HRs last season. On the other hand, he had a fairly anemic strikeout rate and he was fairly hittable. When he was drafted, he received a lot of buzz for his knuckle curveball, but as a RHP who sat in the high 80s and sometimes touched 91-92, he always struck me as one of those guys who’d have to prove himself at every level without much room for error. While the guy was projectable at 6’5, 185 pounds, he had a fairly narrow frame. There were some questions about how well he could fill it out and add velocity.

I know some people who liked him, but I didn’t have him in my Top 30. I’m waiting to hear how he looked before reconsidering that.

I’m worried about the defense, but the bat will play anywhere.

i read an interview where he said he didn’t walk much his last year in college because that’s not what his job was. apparently, he may have been telling the truth. so now one of the major criticisms of him is fading. if he truly does have good patience to go with his crazy speed, i don’t see why this guy can’t become the next michael bourn.
