Torn ACL for Mariano Rivera

No, he hasn't been a prospect since 1996, but this could very well be the last chapter in the story of a Hall of Fame career. Figured it is newsworthy for any baseball website. Girardi has addressed the media and confirmed the MRI results.

I'm no fan of the Yankees per se, but Rivera is arguably the best relief pitcher since Eckersley and one of the best ballplayers of this era. Sad to see that this is the likely end to his career, as I cant imagine that he'll rehab to come back for 2013...but I suppose stranger things have happened.

As a Blue Jay fan of 15 years

I hate everything Yankees, so by extension I’ve never been big Rivera fan (while respecting the hell out of his brilliance). That said, it would be a shame for a HOF career to end like this.

Not going to miss him

Sad he goes out like this.

I don't get you guys

While I “hate” the Yankees, I not only respect many players on their team, I like many of them. And while I dread when my team is down by a run with Rivera coming up it makes it that much more sweet when he is beaten.

I don't see any posts here that aren't showing Rivera respect.

In fact, I see the posts basically repeating exactly what you wrote here.
