Impact Prospects
When it is all said and done who will be the biggest impact player in the major leagues out of: arodlis chapman, dustin ackley and michael taylor?
I say Dustin Ackley will be considering the position he will plays and how weak that position is. That is just my opinion though. I would like to get other peoples thoughts too though. Maybe even some projections of their stats when they reach their prime.
Thanks in advance

Dustin Ackley
I don’t think the others will reach their full potential, but he is already the best regardless

I think some are already...
over rating Ackley. I like him and all, but he is not a top 15 prospect at this point and is still far from a sure bet to be a star. Especially if he has to move back to first for some reason. I would still take him over the other two, but that isn’t saying much. All three are in the 30-45 range for me.

what?
you are a GM of a major league team and you get to pick anyone who is rookie eligible for your organization, you have the 29th pick and you are telling me you are leaving all 3 of these guys on the board, how on earth can you actually say that and have enough intelligence to also type the words in correct english that we can actually read? i mean there are people out there that agree with you, just they aren’t usually on a message board filled with people who generally have a clue of what they are talking about, i think you are clearly on the wrong site…go to www.myteamstop30arethebest30prospectsinallofbaseball.com

Relax...
He stated his opinion. If you don’t agree with it, why don’t you try backing up your point of view with some scouting reports or statistics that back up your argument instead of insulting his intelligence.
Pinella: Where th f*ck was that pitch at?
Ump: Lou, don't you know that you're not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition?

well
since every single prospect top 100 and scouting report completely refutes what he is saying, how about hmmm….I don’t need to… he is the one person in the world that is saying everyone else is wrong, how about he gives some logical reason why the guy baseball america is touting “a future batting champ” and the kid who throws 100 and is dominating in ST so far and the guy who has put up back to back ridiculous seasons with great OBP, some mid-range steals potential and the potential for maybe even 30 homers if he can tap into that LB build a little better and get away from the “stanford swing” are obviously overrated by the entire world
i mean it’s one thing to go out on a limb, but don’t hate on 3 completely unrelated people all at once for no reason, plus i didn’t insult his intelligence, i was complementing him on the major accomplishment of being able to type proper english, I bet he is very much admired in his genius circle of prognasticators

You sarcastically complimented his ability to type the english language.
You really should try capitalization and sentences that actually end if you’re going to do that though.

nah
i am not trying to prove that i can write, i am not saying top prospects are in the 30-45 range so clearly i haven’t given reason for everyone on this site to think i have no clue about anything, plus i am not really making pauses and complete sentences…just letting my thoughts flow as they were…i mean this genius says ackley hasn’t proven anything, then 5 seconds later says taylor isn’t as good as dom. brown, so i guess SINCE taylor has put up very solid numbers in AA and AAA that DISPROVES that he can be good, where dom. brown just having elite “tools” proves he is a top prospect, yeah, makes sense to me now
obviously i rate brown above taylor, that’s not the point, just that the he has no reason for saying crazy things other than apparently he likes to hate on people with helium i guess

Wow...
you clame your intellgient yet you have to resort to questioning my intelligence to come up with something to say. Also, on Ackley it has more to do with him not playing in the minors yet at all and he hasn’t shown he will be able to handle a position other than first for a full season yet. Also, if anyone is projecting him to win batting titles that is sad. I could understand projecting to bat 310 or something, but to project him to win a batting title is way too much. I never said he couldn’t hit and won’t eventually be a star, just with all that we know about him he shouldn’t be rated over guys who have actually proven things in the minors so far.
On Chapman, he is still very risky. Sure he throws 100, but that doesn’t mean he is going to be a great pitcher. If he is able to show he can throw at least two other aveerage pitches and start every five days for a full season, he could be top 5, but until he does I wouldn’t rate him over someone like Martin Perez.
On Taylor, most of what I have heard has said he doesn’t really have the true star potential some others have. I could see him being a Jermaine Dye type player with a little less power which would still make him a really good player, but hes not on the level of guys like Jesus Montero or Dom Brown.

still
you can doubt from a distance all you want. but when the people who do this for a living put those guys in those spots…well, that sort of makes his case. assuming neither of you have ever seen the three of them play, you have chosen your opinion (which is fine) to not rate them higher than 30. he has chosen the opinion of professionals to show they should be.
i tihnk the only trouble is with who you drop in ahead of them. if these problems exist here, i have to think there are similar holes in the players you want to slot ahead of them.
i thought the argument of being a GM with the 29th pick and these three being on the board pretty much brought a bit of reality to it. risky or not, you’d be hard pressed to find a person who wouldn’t take ackley, chapman, or taylor…and likely in that order.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

by memphi on Mar 12, 2026 9:42 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
In their primes...
Dustin Ackley- .310 avg 15-20 HR 15-20 SB if that
Michael Taylor- .290 avg 20-25 HR 5-10 SB
Aroldis Chapman- Too early to tell if he is a reliever or starter in the majors in my opinion.
