Obligatory 'Rank These Players' Post

Disclosure: this is a fantasy-related question inasmuch as this is a question regarding prospects in my fantasy minor league farm system. However, I’m not really concerned about the fantasy implications as much as I am curious as to how you would rank the following players in a real-life organizational Top 25 (i.e. considering their real-life, non-fantasy value). How would you rank the following players? My list and rankings below:

1. P Trevor Reckling (LAA)

2. 3B Alex Liddi (SEA)

3. OF Francisco Peguero (SF)

4. OF Greg Halman (SEA)

5. P Wilkins de la Rosa (NYY)

6. RP Kam Mickolio (BAL)

7. C Miguel Gonzalez (CWS)

8. P Chia-Jen Lo (HOU)

9. P Tyler Sample (KC)

10. SP Jorge Bucardo (SF) [Personal favorite]

11. 2B John Tolisano (TOR)

12. 1B Jesus Guzman (SF) [He even worth noting any more?]

13. P Brett Lorin (SEA)

14. P Esmailin Caridad (CHC)

15. 2B Jerome Hoes (BAL)

16. P Chaz Roe (COL)

17. P Chris Cody (MIL)

18. P Juan Jaime (WAS)

19. P Nick Hill (SEA)

20. P Roque Mercedes (MIL)

21. SP Kenn Kasparek (SEA)

22. P Jose Perez (LAA) [Sleeper that I really like]

23. SP Matthew Way (PHI)

24. OF Matt Angle (BAL)

25. P Fabian Williamson (BOS)

Organizational flotsam: P Sean Black (NYY) OF Joe Dunigan (SEA); SS Dustin Coleman (OAK); P George Kontos (NYY); SP Alex Periard (MIL); SP Justin Souza (OAK); P Kenta Suda (SEA); P Aaron Pribanic (SEA); OF Alexis Espinoza (DET); C Nevin Ashley (TAM); P Brian Moran (SEA)

Is there anybody you feel ranked too high? Too low? Remember this is in actual prospect terms, so treat this as if it were a fictitious Sickels’ exercise.

This is an awful list of players…but no, I don’t see much room for different rankings.

Yes

It’s terrible this farm…

That it is.

But this is a 28-team league with full minors (going all the way down to Rookie Leagues). Of course my major league team is stacked at the expense of the farm so I’m not complaining.

after a quick look

i’d think you should but chia-jen lo up to #3. he has closer potential and there is no one really blocking him long term (only competition is fellow B- prospect sam gervacio). you have a bunch of C/C+ guys ranked ahead of lo. lo has at least a chance to be a good fantasy contributor.

After your top six, it's all filler really

Hard to differentiate.

Miguel Gonzalez is a million miles away from the majors

But he has potential with the bat and has a great rookie ball season under his belt. I have no idea if he profiles to stay at catcher, but I’d consider him one of your top prospects, probably #3 or #4.

I think Roe is too low

always liked the kid. Big, projectible frame, and, sure, he was repeating AA, but he seemed to start ironing out his home run issues which were a main concern coming in. He won’t light the world on fire, but he could be a very passable back-of-the-rotation starter. Zach Duke comp

Here is my ranking according to my current itteration..

All these guys are on my list..the highest being Halman as the 148th best prospect and the Nevin Ashley as the lowest at 4490..yep you read it right, my list goes to 5944.
Your top 6 are in the top 300 and you have 20 in the top 1000. I could see moving Mercedes and De La Rosa up a little but I’m not overly confident in either. Black and Moran could jump up a lot next season if they continue pitching well.

1 OF Greg Halman (SEA)
2 3B Alex Liddi (SEA)
3 P Trevor Reckling (LAA)
4 P Chia-Jen Lo (HOU)
5 OF Francisco Peguero (SF)
6 OF Joe Dunigan (SEA)
7 SP Kenn Kasparek (SEA)
8 2B Jerome Hoes (BAL)
9 C Miguel Gonzalez (CWS)
10 RP Kam Mickolio (BAL)
11 2B John Tolisano (TOR)
12 P Fabian Williamson (BOS)
13 P Tyler Sample (KC)
14 OF Matt Angle (BAL)
15 P Chaz Roe (COL)

Thanks for the list

Curious as to your thoughts on Dunigan and Sample, given their relative rankings on the list.

by ThomasG on Jan 21, 2026 8:02 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

No problem

Here’s what I wrote about Dunigan:
“he has the size and swing to be a masher but has yet to do it consistently or anywhere other than High Desert. If he does, look out.”

Sample could be higher considering he was a third rounder , but he’s still a 20 year old in rookie ball struggling with control in a system that does their best to hinder pitching prospects. If things start clicking, he could go as high as 4th on this list.

Suggestion:

stop drafting fringe Mariners prospects. I’m a big Ms fan, but even their actual prospects aren’t that good. Stay away from fringe organizational top-20 guys.

Can't help it.

I’m the Mariners in this league. I’m at the mercy of their drafts.
