Game Recaps from Monday, October 27th

Glendale 6 - Surprise 5 (11 innings)

Glendale was led by a pair of bomb shots from RF Steven Moya (GDD) to a 6-5 win over Surprise in 11 innings. Moya brought home three runs and scored twice, also hitting a sac fly. LF Scott Schebler (GDD) also had a solo shot for the Desert Dogs, adding a single and three punch outs to his daily line. SS Corey Seager (GDD) kicked in a single and a triple, plating one with a strike out. 2B Darnell Sweeney (GDD) reached base four times with three singles and a walk, stealing one base and getting caught going for a second, also scoring once and driving in one. 3B Jason Esposito (GDD) singled, walked, and scored a run while also making a fielding error. CF Mallex Smith (SUR) led the Saguaros charge, reaching base four times on three singles and a walk, driving in one with two runs scored. LF Jesse Winker (SUR) did his part as well, hitting a solo shot to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th, also singling and striking out earlier in the game. DH Hunter Renfroe (SUR) registered just one hit, a triple, while striking out three times as C John Hicks (SUR) doubled and scored for his only hit of the game. 1B Patrick Kivlehan (SUR) was 1-5 with an RBI and he also was caught stealing.

Starting pitcher RHP Francellis Montas (GDD) was solid through five innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk, striking out three and hitting 99 mph on the radar gun with his extra sharp cheddar. He did not factor in the decision with LHP Scott Snodgress (GDD) blowing a save but still being credited with the win. Snodgress surrendered an unearned run on two hits and a walk covering one inning. RHP Blake Smith (GDD) worked the save, striking out two in a perfect 11th frame. The Saguaros starter RHP Justin Hancock (SUR) lasted three innings, scattering three hits with no walks or runs scored, striking out two. LHP Robby Scott (SUR) picked up his fourth hold with a scoreless relief inning punching out two with one hit. LHP Ben Klimesh (SUR) took the loss as he allowed the game winning run to score with two hits and two walks allowed in his inning of work.

Mesa 3 - Salt River 3 (11 innings)

The Solar Sox and Rafters went as many innings as the AFL allows and still could not decide the victor, ending in a 3-3 stalemate. Mesa also outhit Salt River 14-10 and had five extra base hits to the Rafters one. RF Jacob Hannemann (MSS) racked up two triples and a single, scoring once and striking out one time. 2B Tony Renda (MSS), C Spencer Kieboom (MSS), and CF Dalton Pompey (MSS) each doubled for the Solar Sox with Pompey adding a strike out while Renda also singled, scored and drove in one. Kieboom singled, hit a sac fly and finished with two RBI's in the game. 1B Dan Vogelbach (MSS) signled twice, as did SS Eric Stamets (MSS) with the Mesa short stop also working a walk and getting caught trying to steal a base. 1B Peter O'Brien (SRR) had the only extra base knock for Salt River, adding a single before being pinch ran for in extras. RF Max Kepler (SRR) and SS Trevor Story (SRR) singled two times a piece and each drove in one. Kepler also scored once and struck out while Story worked a walk as well. CF Byron Buxton (SRR) was 1-4 with a single, a stolen base, a strike out and was caught stealing before being lifted in the ninth inning due to a hand injury suffered while diving for a ball in center field.

RHP CJ Edwards (MSS) tossed three perfect innings, facing the minimum with one strike out. Edwards was followed by two solid innings from RHP Drew Granier (MSS), scattering two hits and a walk while striking out three and earning his first hold. RHP Neil Holland (MSS) was responsible for all three runs allowed by the Solar Sox, surrendering four hits without walking anyone, also striking out one and getting tagged with his second blown save. Opposing starter RHP Christian Bergman (SRR) allowed a pair of runs to score in four innings of work, scattering five hits with five punch outs. RHP Kaleb Fleck (SRR) blew the save for Salt River, allowing one run on two hits with a strike out in his one inning of relief.

Scottsdale 6 - Peoria 2

Scottsdale jumped to an early 3-1 lead after two innings and would hold on, scoring three insurance runs in the 8th for a 6-2 victory over Peoria. CF Roman Quinn (SCO) hit a solo homer which wound up being the go-ahead run, and he also singled later in the game and was caught trying to get his 11th stolen base. The nail in the coffin came from 1B Greg Bird (SCO) who launched a three-run shot over the center field fence, his only hit of the game. SS Matt Reynolds (SCO) was credited with the only other RBI, finishing 1-3 with a walk and a single. RF Aaron Judge (SCO) crossed the dish twice after reaching on two walks and a single, also committing a fielding error. LF Brandon Nimmo (SCO) scored two times as well after reaching on a single and an error and also struck out. DH Francisco Lindor (PEJ) and CF Bubba Starling (PEJ) each doubled for their only hit with Lindor coming around to score and was hit by a pitch, and Starling driving one in with a strike out. 1B Patrick Leonard (PEJ) reached base three times with a double and two walks, scoring once, getting caught stealing, and also making a fielding error at first base.

LHP Adam Morgan (SCO) picked up the win with four innings of work, striking out three and allowing one unearned run and one earned run on three hits, a walk, hit batter and a balk. Opposing starter RHP Aaron Northcraft (PEJ) was the hard luck loser, surrendering four hits and two walk which resulted in three runs scoring but only one was earned. The earned run was the result of a home run allowed to Quinn.
