With quite a bit of voter participation, which is essential to truly make this a "community list", George Springer ends up winning the round with 23 points. Although he only got 1/3 of the first place votes cast, he got more of them than anyone else, plus more second place votes than anyone else. Marcus Stroman is next with 16 points, followed by Jake deGrom with 12, Yordano Ventura with 6, Kevin Gausman (write in) 4, Nick Castellanos with 3, Rougned Odor with 3 and Javier Baez with 2. Taijuan Walker and Billy Hamilton each got a single second place vote for 1 point. 0 points for Colin McHugh.
1. Jose Abreu 1b Chicago White Sox
2. Xander Bogaerts SS/3B Boston Red Sox
3. Masahiro Tanaka Pitcher New York Yankees
4. Mookie Betts 2b/OF Boston Red Sox
5. Gregory Polanco OF Pittsburgh Pirates
6. George Spinger OF Houston Astros
We'll drop Colin McHugh, Taijuan Walker and Billy Hamilton temporarily from the voting. We'll bring back Kevin Gausman and Nick Castellanos given that each got some first place support last round. This leaves as temporarily dropped:
James Paxton 0 votes (round 2), Jake Odorizzi 0 votes (round 3), Joe Panik 0 votes (round 4), Danny Santana 0 votes (round 4), Colin McHugh 0 votes (round 5), Taijuan Walker 1 point (round 5), Billy Hamilton 1 vote (round 5)
In what was probably our best discussion section of any of these threads so far there was some discussion regarding Oscar Taveras. Initially, I decided with several other front page posts discussing the sad event, that I would drop him from our voting so as to allow discussion to stay on John's thread. However, there was some sentiment, which I find convincing, that Taveras shouldn't be airbrushed out of last year's rookie class, of which he was very much a part, quite so quickly.
So, I'm going to return Taveras to the ballot and ask that you rank him based on the career you believe he would have had. Obviously, I am struggling here to find the best way to honor his memory and to be in good taste. I hope this works for everyone.
We are also adding Travis D'Arnaud to the ballot for the first time.
Players who are still on the list to get their first time on the ballot in the next few rounds are Dellin Betances, Kolton Wong, .Ken Giles, Ender Incarte, Kevin Kiermaier, Jackie Bradley, Jr., and Roenis Elias. Absent write in votes, I'm inclined to have Betances and Wong as the next two. Beyond that I'm completely open to suggestion. .
As a reminder voting is by +1 for your first choice and +2 for your second choice.
So, who is your #7 prospect among last year's rookie class?
