This is a protected pick

and the Nationals have been spending big $$$ in recent years, so it makes sense to take a chance on the best player available. I realize Rizzo prefers drafting college pitchers, but we believe Bubba Starling fills a need in the organization and has a much higher upside than Alex Meyer, Matt Barnes, Sonny Gray or Taylor Jungmann.

Looks like Lindor or Archie Bradley. No real need to get another arm, they’ve got JP, Skaggs, Holmberg just started throwing low-90’s instead of 89-91, Corbin, Brewer, etc. Kennedy and Hudson already in the Show.

Recent Talk has them willing to open up a little bit

Not Bubba Starling or Josh Bell level and probably not even Bundy level. They love Bauer but a whole mess of guys beyond that are jumbled together.

Sonny Gray has a lot of questions on whether he can stick in the rotation and given what is in the system already I think they’ve soured on him a little bit as they need a starter. Bradley’s upside is hard to pass up.

As a Dodgers fan, i have to say that in this situation, Logan White would probably take Guerrieri.

Yeah, yeah, another team fan whining about what his team would do, but Logan White has never in his life chosen signability over talent, and I have to believe (and hope) that he takes the BTA and fights to sign him.

by Taylor Maricle on Jun 4, 2025 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

How can he "fight"

When MLB is likely going to force the Dodgers to pick a kid who will sign at slot?

by OrangeBravo on Jun 4, 2025 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions

As in

Logan White picks first and signs later.

I’m not sure exactly how much direct influence MLB has over Dodgers operations, whether they’re just stamping the OK on moves or if they’re running things, but unless they directly order White to find slot talent, I’m betting on him going BTA.

by Taylor Maricle on Jun 4, 2025 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Found this.

“I though the most interesting thing White said was in response to being asked if his drafting decisions might be altered because he might be under different financial constraints and considerations, but White replied that he didn’t think so and that he expected to draft in the same ways that he has before and select who they think is the best available player at each spot.”

by OrangeBravo on Jun 4, 2025 1:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Explanation

Nats aren’t going to take C.J. Cron who is the best catcher available, nor Kolten Wong or a catcher. This pick had to be a college pitcher, and I prefer Garvin to the other arms left (Osich, Gilmartin, Chafin). Maybe it’s a reach but it’s a pretty safe pick. I was hoping for Alex Meyer here.

The actual MLB Draft

won’t look like this mock. There will be surprises. If the Nats get Starling at #6 overall it is almost definite they will take a college pitcher with the #23 pick. With Meyer gone, Garvin was the remaining college pitcher I liked best. Who would you have prefered? Gilmart, Osich, Chafin, Meo..?

by Kapellmeisters on Jun 4, 2025 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Solid pick

He’s probably the best remaining prep arm with Guerrieri, Norris, Owens, and Stephenson gone. The Braves have come out saying they are looking for pitching in the draft, and I love the upside that comes with Howard (or whichever of the other prep arms that could have fallen.)

smokescreen
The Braves have come out saying they are looking for pitching in the draft.

‘cause we need positional players MUCH more. I know I know: never draft for need. But the issue remains, we have little depth in the minors @ 3B or 2B and our OF options are nil. I think it’s the Braves FO’s way of hiding the true intentions. Trevor Story or Derek Fisher (I mean, if we’re going over slot, why not do it for an impact bat?) seem likely as well.

did not expect to go 3 position players in this draft

but I couldn’t pass on Susac (#19 on my board) any longer

Great on both picks

Definitely 2 of their biggest need areas.

Rays are dominating this draft

As they will on draft day too

by 4dizzle on Jun 4, 2025 1:58 PM EDT up reply actions

They better

They have more picks than something…

great pick

obviously like I’ve stated before I would like to go pitcher heavy but if we can land these 3 guys I would be ecstatic.

Good pick.

Not really sure what the Rangers will do but, as always, you can never have enough arms.

by rblythepittsteel on Jun 4, 2025 2:00 PM EDT up reply actions

smallish guy

with clean mechanics, good fastball, advanced repetoire and a feel for pitching and fron No. Cal to boot.

This is like every Jon Daniels/Ron Hopkins/Kipp Fagg pick rolled into one guy.

I like this choice Firebat

I’d rather they take the HS arm than the hitter given their recent development success with the former and not the latter. This is a deep draft for prep talent and I hope the Rangers buy a few of these kids out.

No need for names

But on your boards, what’s the highest rank still available? My #18 and #20 guys are still on the board.

by 4dizzle on Jun 4, 2025 2:01 PM EDT reply actions

my #25 guy still available

lowest one left

by cookiedabookie on Jun 4, 2025 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions

The #34 pick

will be the #30 guy on my board

by Kapellmeisters on Jun 4, 2025 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions

#22 and then #30

(not counting Purke, who’s sort of sui generis)

by AndrewTorrez on Jun 4, 2025 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions

5 of mine...

But I don’t have a pick until the 2nd round, so doesn’t really matter haha

by 4dizzle on Jun 4, 2025 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I am waiting until 51

so I feel ya.

by cookiedabookie on Jun 4, 2025 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Most of my guys are still on

for my 45th pick. Could be a hard decision.
