Philadelphia Phillies Preliminary Prospect List
I have 43 names here, down from the first run through that gave me 54. Jeri informs me that I am already running over space limits, so I need to cut this down to 36-38, and comments from teams I have already written up will have to be pared down. So if you want to suggest a different player to consider, you need to suggest a cut too.

Is Colby Shreve really worth discussing? All indications are that his stuff never bounced back after Tommy John. I can’t really picture him in the top 40 prospects (or 36-38) in this system.
Anthony Hewitt also. I just don’t see it ever happening for him.
And Jacob Diekman. The strikeouts are nice but no team wants a LOOGY walking 6 guys per 9 — at AA no less. He’s interesting but not much more than that.

Hewitt
great kid, incredible tools, awesome work ethic, very intelligent… can’t hit a lick.
Will be great and have a long career as a coach.

Hey John...
Domingo Santana is now w Houston (went over in the Pence trade).
Also, Mike Cisco is another name to condsider. An undersized righty, but had a very good year: 62.3 IP, 39 H, 1.59 ERA 52K. A bit old for AA but still prospect age.

Harold Garcia? Seemed like he was on track to be a utility guy in Philly, but tore his ACL early in the season.

Strongly agree on adding Bello, take off Mathieson (he may not be eligible, depending what you use as your criteria, which I forget. He made his pro debut 5+ years ago and is out of Options). Mathieson was a good prospect, but fringy at best, at this point. Matt Rizzotti is pretty suspect, as well, with no successful performance above AA, he’ll probably be exposed to the Rule V Draft this year (though I doubt anyone takes him).

Agreed
While Scott and Rizz both may stick in the big leagues at some point, I wouldn’t really consider either a prospect at this point.

Also, I would say Cody Overbeck over Matt Rizzotti at this point.
by Governator on Oct 24, 2025 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, Overbeck’s just outside what I consider the Top 30, but I’d definitely put him in over the Rizz.

Kyrell Hudson
I was a bit surprised not to see Kyrell Hudson on the list. He was a 3rd round pick just 2 years ago and made major strides this year.
To me its just surprising to see Zach Collier included and not Hudson. Both had similar numbers at the end of the season. Yes they are the same age and Collier was a level higher in Lakewood but Collier is also suspended for 50 games next season whereas Hudson is not.
However, in looking over the list a second time, I do not think he is egregiously missing. There is a legitimate case to be made for each of these players listed. I just had anticipated seeing Hudson there.

Hudson should be on there, I will drop Mathieson to make room.

Tocci
Was/is a little known IFA signing this past July though it is the highest bonus the team has paid on the International market…I know it’s rough to project foreign guys, esp 18 year olds but do you guys have anything on him?

man this system took a big step back from last year.

Graduating Worley, Brown and Stutes and trading away Singleton, Cosart, and Santana will do that.
by Governator on Oct 24, 2025 10:19 PM EDT up reply actions
Stutes is weird though, as I don’t recall seeing him in anyone’s Top 30 lists for the Phillies. He didn’t exactly come out of nowhere, but he did exceed expectations this year. Same is true with Worley, to an extent. The Pence trade, more than anything else, really shook up the top 10.

if by "took a big step" you mean "produced a lot of value to the major league team", then yes, that is correct

It devastated their prospective offseason farm ranking though!
Perspective, my man.

Colton Murray?
Don’t know much about him but BBA seems to think he has a good shot at making the show.

You cut Rupp?
Have to admit that surprises me.

Disappointed to see a former student of mine go by the wayside!

Aumont....
I know John you like to underate RPs but he defintely did turn the corner this year - 13 K/9 & nice ERAs at AA & AAA.You could go straight B as althoughhe was drafted 2007 is still only 22….just my opinion though

I like how the grade appears to have snuck into the list there

Manzanillo instead of Claypool
More upside than Claypool & wasnt as bad as his ERA looks….just young n needs time to refine that power FB

I’d have nixed Rizzotti instead of Morgado. I doubt Rizzotti ever plays for the big club
by Cormican on Oct 26, 2025 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions
rizotti
Everyone wants me to cut Rizzotti, but I’m not going to. He’s the Clint Robinson of the Phillies system and as soon as I cut him, he’ll get a job somehow and prove everyone wrong, lol
by John Sickels on Oct 26, 2025 1:40 PM EDT reply actions
I hope he does, he seems like a good guy. I just don’t think he’s worth a write up at the expense of guys with higher ceilings.
by Cormican on Oct 26, 2025 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions
I wouldn't
Cut Matt either…I see him either getting a shot out of Clearwater this spring or being a trade piece to acquire a more pressing need (3B upgrade?)
