Luke Bailey
Can anyone please enlighten me on how long it will take Luke Bailey to come back from TJ surgery? Will it take the same time as pitchers or is it different for position players as a whole? What is his stock now? I've heard the Rays could take him at #78 if he falls that far, which, in my opinion, could be a huge steal, as obviously he was the best catcher in the draft before the surgery.

I would say about 9 months or so
Dustin Ackley had TJ surgery last year and he was able to play the majority of the season for UNC. He was able to rehab it while playing a position that didn’t require much strain on the elbow, first base, but he’ll eventually be a centerfielder. So I would say it takes less time for players than pitchers. I’ve heard Bailey going as high as the late supplemental and second round but its really up to each org whether they want to take the risk of him being out for a long time and possibly lose arm strength in the long run. If he has to move off catcher, his bat doesn’t profile as well in any other position. Plus he has a scholarship to Auburn, so its a possibility he can turn down the team who drafts him and go to college instead. He’s got first round talent and if a team can get him and sign him to a reasonably over slot bonus in the third round and get him healthy, I’d agree, thats a steal.
