Mike Stanton to AA

It appears from a few fan posts before and now from the announcement at the marlins game that mike Stanton has been moved to AA jacksonville. Rising out of the huge pitchers park of Jupiter in the FSL Mike put up the following line.

.294/.390/.578/.968 while dropping his K percentage from 42.9% to 28.3% to 21.4%. Durring the last month he had almost a BB per walk, he has also raised his walk percentage 8.6% to 10.7% to 13.3% over the year and a LD% up to 18% from 15% last year.

How do you all feel he will do as the summer progresses? Is this a fast track move or perhaps a little too much  upwards at too fast a pace for the kid?

Those improvements he made

are pretty awesome. He is already one of the best prospects in the minors and if he keeps that up in AA, he will be the #1 prospect going into next season. Well #2 behind Strasburg.

rather have Heyward IMO

Heres a question

Who has a better chance to win an MVP award at the major league level? Jason Heyward or Mike Stanton? Stanton is most likely always going to outpace Heyward in the shiny statistics(HR’s, RBI’s). And this isn’t like between Albert Pujols and Ryan Howard. Mike Stanton is a great athlete that should be a well above average right fielder.

I do think that Heyward is going to be the better overall player, but I’d take a guy that has the potential to lead the NL in HR’s and RBI’s one season. No matter if he only ever hits .260 and slugs .550. Those guys put butts in the seats. Well maybe not in Florida.

Love him

So many good things said about how Stanton learns from everything, his ability to make adjustments, his desire to get better. This is the sort of guy I feel okay about pushing hard . . .if he struggles, so what? He’s 19 and in AA, and a few months of less-than-stellar performance wouldn’t drop him in prospectdom at all. The raw tools are tremendous and he’s way ahead of the development curve, obviously . . .it will be interesting to see how he handles AA right now, as he’s a guy with a big strike zone, but he’ll deal.

If he stayed in Jupiter all season long, I’d find it pretty much impossible not to see him as at least the No. 2 prospect in the game going into next year. He probably won’t need to do too much in AA this year to stay there.

stanton

jupiter is my home park so i’ve seen stanton many times this season. he’s a man among boys. not only is he NOT being rushed, but he will prosper in double-a. i’ve mentioned this before, but i have a friend who deals with scouts on a daily basis. one scout he interacts with daily told him that stanton will get a cup of coffee by the end of this season….guessing he’ll be a september call-up. the thing i like about him is that he’s always trying to better himself. some of these guys have natural gifts and rely solely on those gifts. stanton has natural gifts, too, but is always trying to get even better. i’m sold

Big Dawg

I would be pretty shocked if he gets called up to the bigs at a legit 19 years old.

Stanton’s the real deal though.

Marlins

They’ve rushed about every good offensive player they’ve had come through their system, so I for one won’t be surprised when Stanton is starting in RF in August.

Let's hope

That he doesn’t follow in the footsteps of the great Hermida.

Way Past Hermida

I think that has alost no chance of happening. Besides basic ability, Hermida is never healthy.

Wait, what?

You don’t want him to be like Miggy?

i look forward to eating crow.

hopefully it’ll be in the next few months, but even if it takes him a while longer, i just hope he gets there.

human beings, who are almost unique in their ability to learn from the experiences of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

This guy IMO will become a lot better than Jay Bruce

What happend to that guy, he is just killing my fantasy team and seems like the only thing he can do is hit a homerun once in a while. Jay Bruce is looking like another Austin Kearns right now or Ron Kittle.

+1

I dont see the need to rush. However, He doesnt need to pull a Joey Votto though either… Why does every team want to move their prospects so quickly. Maybe its me, but it seems ti be happening more and more. For the few that can handle it- seems so many struggle and never get on track again. . Maybe I am just plain wrong. I wonder if Bruce, Maybin, and a few others woudl do better if not rushed. I think that would be a great idea for a artice John. Does rushing hurt prospects?

Braves, mah man...

…Bruce’s time will come.

His BABIP is absurdly low, while the man just knows how to hack.

for a nice breakdown of Bruce

check this out. while his BABIP is low, his LD rate is dragging it down just as much as anything else. that said, he’s 22 and has already played a full year in the majors. if he never struggled he’d be Pujols.
