Schafer Sent Down
According to a comment in Carrol Roger's blog at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Jordan Schafer has been sent down (presumably to Gwinnett) to work on his swing. Gregor Blanco has been called up to replace him and is in the lineup tonight. As much as it makes sense, I'm a little surprised the Braves actually did it. I suppose it helps that Blanco finally started hitting over the last couple weeks. So how long do you think he stays down? Will he come back soon and have an impact?

Good move
Another issue is a lingering wrist injury that will probably affect him for the whole season.
On a positive note, he was drawing walks and playing excellent defense. The stint in the minors should correct some mechanical flaws in his swing to help the contact problem.

Return
I would say sometime July, probably after the all-star break (if he shows improvement).

Fantasy Implications?
I have Schafer on my NL-only 5×5 roto team. Also have G Parra & E Dukes tied together and could split / keep both Parra & Dukes but that would require cutting Schafer outright. Is Parra’s hot start for real or does Schafer’s upside outweigh the near-term potential of sticking with Parra? I know Parra is highly regarded — and Young’s pitiful play has opened the door — but not sure his numbers support long-term productivity other than in the BA cat & perhaps SBs. I’d appreciate advice/ suggestions. Cheers.

I'm not really sure what Schafer's offensive upside is
Maybe 15 HRs/10 SB with a .270 BA? I think he could approximate Mike Cameron at his (Schafer’s) peak, so maybe that’s worth holding on to, but most of this guy’s upside is above-average defense in CF and a solid walk rate.

he has a tad more power than that
so, if he hits .270 and maintains his plate discipline, he’ll probably have an OBP around .360, give or take 20 points either way, i’d say, he could peak around 25 HRs, but if he’s at 15, with 50 XBHs, he could probably put up a .270/.360/.450 line. combine that with his above average defense, and he’s got a lot of value as a place setter at the top of the lineup.
human beings, who are almost unique in their ability to learn from the experiences of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
