Something I forgot to say in MOD #1 was that polish/command/mechanics are the most important things to me in a pitcher. While the hit tool/strike zone judgement/bat speed are the most important things to me in a hitter, while at the same time putting less emphasis on speed/athleticism. Yes, that is important, but not as much as basic hitting as far as I am concerned.
Anyway, to the subject at hand, players who's draft stock is going down. This is one of the hardest things to gauge because there could be different conflicting reports as to why, while still having the initial tools that got them noticed which may translate better professionally.
So if any of you can offer feedback on any of these guys and more, it is appreciated because this is more of a reference for everyone to use.
Bobby Dalbec, 1B/RHP, Univ Arizona
Once thought of as having a hit tool that rivaled the best in college has had his stock crater due to poor results
Peter Alonso, 1B, Univ Florida
See above, but the production is a little better
Buddy Reed, OF, Univ Florida
It was believed he was a top 10 talent before. Production has been solid, but he's slipped in the draft boards anyway
Cal Quantrill, RHP, Stanford
Was once considered a candidate for top overall pick. But then TJ surgery happened and he hasn't pitched since
Bryan Reynolds, OF, Vanderbilt
Another guy like Reed who was once thought of more highly, but scouts claim he is more about a tools across the board kind of guy instead of a star
Austin Bergner, RHP, HS
Seen as just as good as the other top HS arms at one point. But then had some results that could be better and signability has become more of a question
Nick Banks, OF, Texas A&M
Regarded before as having one of the best hitting tools among college bats. But the results in his draft year have been so bad, he's slipped from possible Top 10, to maybe Rd 3-4
Avery Tuck, OF, HS
Huge power upside, but his game results never matched the tools and his draft stock has taken a hit because of such
Alec Hansen, RHP, Univ Okla
Another guy once thought of as potential top overall draft choice. But the command/control got so bad, he is now relocated to the bullpen
Dalton Jeffries, RHP, Univ of Cal
Thought of as an easy mid 1st round pitcher before shoulder concerns took front and center focus regarding his future
Herbert Iser, C, HS
Injuries have derailed a guy once thought to be best def/off combo among HS Catchers. Hasn't even been behind the plate this year. It is said he'll go to JUCO to rebuild draft stock. I so wonder about him and catching in general, that the focus of MOD #3 will be just that
Again, if any of you can offer feedback on any of these guys, it is appreciated because this is more of a reference for everyone to use when they make their determinations on how past scouting reports may translate differently when becoming professional.
