Hey everyone! I hope you're not all burnt out from the draft as we still have plenty of action from yesterday's slate of games. Lets go ahead and jump right into the action.
Corey Seager continues to make the Cal League his personal beeotch. The Dodgers short stop was 3-5 last night with two more home runs (his 10th and 11th) and four RBI with two runs scored. His recent hot streak includes six home runs, three doubles, and 16 RBI in his last 10 games. Seager is now hitting 348/397/620 with a 1.017 OPS, .437 wOBA, and 166 wRC+.
Detroit third baseman Nick Castellanos put together a multi-hit game, going 3-4 with his 10th double of the year and a run scored. In his last 10 games, Castellanos has been locked in, as he's sporting a 387/500/484 line with seven walks, seven strike outs, and three doubles. On the year he's hit four homers, drove in 20, scored 14 runs, and has a 260/306/384 line with a .304 wOBA, 87 wRC+ and has been good for 0.1 fWAR.
Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson has been pretty quiet compared to his monstrous April. Last night for Albuquerque, Pederson was 3-7 with his 10th and 11 doubles of the year, one run scored, and he went back to the dugout with three strike outs. He's batting 303/439/515 in his previous 10 games with three doubles, two triples, three runs, four RBI, seven walks and 12 punch outs. For 2014 he's still hitting a robust 340/445/628 with 15 homers, 11 doubles, three triples, 46 runs scored, 36 RBI, 13 steals in 17 tries, and 40 walks to 71 strike outs with a .460 wOBA and 179 wRC+.
A name not many are familiar with and is a member of the Helium Tank is Padres center fielder Mallex Smith. Smith is a name to know because of his blazing speed, and because he's got a healthy lead on the 2014 minor league lead in stolen bases after leading the Midwest League last year with 64. Last night Smith was 1-3 with his 10th double, two walks, two RBI and his 45th and 46th stolen bases of the year. For the year he is hitting 294/402/385 with 10 doubles, five triples, no home runs, 49 runs scored, 14 RBI, 38 walks, 46 strike outs, and is 46 for 62 in stolen bases this year.
On the mound it was Anthony Ranaudo and Jimmy Nelson turning in the most dominant performances. Ranaudo dominated one of our Duels of the Day by turning in seven shut out innings with just two hits allowed and seven strike outs with no walks. He lowered his season ERA to 2.79 with a 1.41 WHIP, and he earned his sixth win of the year. Nelson was equally as impressive but in one less inning of work. He tossed six scoreless in relief at AAA Nashville with just two hits and two walks allowed to go with seven strike outs. He leads the PCL with a 1.40 ERA and 0.92 WHIP.
Marcus Stroman (6 IP, 7 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 7 K), Wes Parsons (7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K), and Jacob Faria (6 IP, 3 H, 1 R/ER, 1 BB, 8 K) each had solid showings but weren't quite up there with Nelson and Ranaudo
