Hello all you prospect hounds out there. Lets get down to business.
Reds outfielder Jesse Winker is absolutely red hot right now, and he keeps in giving opponents the business. Yesterday he was 2-4 with a pair of home runs, his eighth and ninth of the season, two walks, five RBI and two runs scored. In his past 10 games the 6'3 lefty is hitting 452/549/881 with a 1.430 OPS, five home runs, three doubles, and 15 runs driven in. He's walked nine times to nine strike outs in that span while going 19-42 with eight runs scored. For the year he's slashing 320/417/558 for Bakersfield with 14 doubles, 39 steaks, 31 runs scored, 30 walks and 38 strike outs.
Out in the Midwest League, catcher Clint Coulter came up big for Low A Wisconsin in a double dip, going 3-6 with two doubles, his 11th and 12th of the year. The 148th ranked prospect in the game for the Brew Crew drove in two with two runs scored, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. Coulter is now slashing 292/428/551 for the season with 10 home runs, 41 runs driven in, 33 walks to 28 strike outs, and 34 runs scored. He has also cooled off a good bit after a blistering April, hitting "just" 255/393/490 in May, a nearly 200 point drop in OPS from April.
With the return of veteran short stop Stephen Drew, Xander Bogaerts has moved a bit to his right, manning the other half of the left side of the infield. His bat has not slowed down with the move as he was 2-4 with his fourth home run of the year for the Sox. He scored once with two runs driven in, and has a 382/443/618 in his last 10 games. In that span he's knocked seven doubles, scored 11 runs, and driven in eight with half of his home run total coming in those days. In 2014, he's hitting 300/391/443 with 15 doubles, 28 runs scored, 15 RBI, and 25 walks to 54 strike outs.
Sleeper Alerts! Trey Mancini and Seth Mejias-Brean both picked up three knocks on the day, and both went yahtzee on the opposition. It was Mejias-Brean's ninth homer of the year and Mancini's second. Outfielder Dalton Pompey also went yard, his sixth, and he also stole his 21st base. Helium Tankers Kody Eaves and Domingo Santana also had excellent performances. Eaves knocked his fourth bomb in part of a 2-5 game while Santana was 1-2 with three walks.
On the bump, a trio of pitchers brought their A game to the mound. Tyler Glasnow is looking more and more studly by the start, tossing five scoreless yesterday with just two hits allowed. He walked four and struck four out as well, getting his second win of the year and dropping the ERA to 2.15 with a 1.25 WHIP.
Lance McCullers was the victim of one player having his number and taking him yard twice. That guy was Steven Proscia as he hit a pair of solo homers off McCullers, the only runs he would allow through six frames. One batter worked a walk and four hits were given up total with six strike outs, six ground outs and five fly outs. His ERA now sits at 4.25 in the Cal League and his WHIP comes in at 1.40 with a 3-3 record.
One guy getting his season back on track is Giants southpaw Edwin Escobar. It took a minute or two for him to adjust to the offensively charged Pacific Coast League, but he turned in his second best start of the year, going seven strong innings with just one run allowed. Six hits were allowed with one walk and six strike outs. His ERA for the year now sits at 4.82 with a 1.47 WHIP.
