Hello prospect watchers across the globe. I do apologize for the lack of Gameday action yesterday, I had a last minute birthday shindig to attend for my brother. It seems like everything went well so lets just scoot on over to the recaps from Sunday's action.
On the offensive side of the ball, Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge was racking up extra base knocks. He was 2-3 for Low A Charleston, hitting his second triple and seventh bomb of the year with a walk and two runs scored. The Judge now sports a 316/410/497 line through 193 at bats with 10 doubles, 30 walks and 47 punch outs. He's scored 30 runs and has knocked in 33 so far.
Helium Tank member Jose Peraza, short stop for the Braves A+ Lynchburg affiliate, showcased his best tool with a pair of triples and a stolen base yesterday. His speed allowed him to pick up triple numbers five and six with his 27th stolen base of the year. Peraza, the fourth ranked prospect in Atlanta's system, came around to score three times, and his season slash line is at 320/346/417. He's got 10 doubles, 10 walks and 27 strike outs with 35 runs scored and 21 RBI.
Other top 150 players with games of note include Gregory Polanco (2-5, 2 SB, 3 R), Carlos Correa (1-2, 2B, SB, 2 BB, RBI, R), Clint Frazier (2-3, HR, SB, BB, RBI, R), Colin Moran (2-6, 2B, R), Garin Cecchini (MLB Debut, 1-2, 2B, RBI), DJ Peterson (2-4, 2B, 3 RBI), Phil Ervin (3-4, 3B, RBI, R), Josh Bell (1-5, HR, 3 RBI), Eddie Rosario (2-6, BB, RBI, 2 R, SB), Jonathan Schoop (3-4, 2 R), and Tommy La Stella (2-3, R).
Sleepers that got the job done were Rafael Bautista (2-5, 2 R, SB), Luke Maile (3-4, HR, 3 R, SB, RBI), and Seth Mejias-Brean (2-4, 3B, R, RBI).
Looking at the pitchers that toed the bump yesterday, you can't start with anyone other than Twins righty Jose Berrios. He was borderline perfect, only allowing two base runners in seven innings on a double, hit batter, zero walks, zero runs, and a whopping 13 STRIKE OUTS! The Tampa Yankees couldn't handle him, and he lowered his already excellent ERA to 2.24 with a 1.17 WHIP, 10.4 K/9, 2.7 BB/9, and a 3.8 K/BB ratio.
It looks like Matt Wisler has made some adjustments and is starting to figure out the lethal Pacific Coast League. He went six innings for AAA El Paso, allowing one run on five hits and three walks. The Wis struck out two with eight ground outs to three fly outs and a hit batsman. His ERA dropped to 7.18 with a 1.82 WHIP which is still downright awful, but an improvement.
Blue Jays Sleeper Alert! Matt Boyd was dropped back down to the Florida State League and continued his dominance at that level. He allowed one earned in 5.2 frames with four hits and a walk allowed and nine punch outs. The southpaw worked seven ground outs to only one fly out with a wild pitch and a balk. His ERA in A+ Dunedin is only 0.49 with a 0.76 WHIP through 31 innings, but while in AA New Hampshire, he sported an 8.31 ERA and 1.94 WHIP through 21.2 frames.
Other Sleeper Alerts! Nick Petree and Jason Creasy were quite studly as well, with Petree allowing one earned through 5.2 and Creasy tossing six shutout innings. The Pirates A+ right hander, Creasy, surrendered just two hits and a walk in his six innings of work with seven strike outs, four ground outs and three fly outs. He brought the ERA down to 3.79 with a 1.24 WHIP and 3-2 record. Petree has dominated both Low and High A with a combined 1.17 ERA in 46.1 innings. Yesterday was more of the same with two runs (one earned) allowed on seven hits and no walks. He struck out five and uncorked a pair of wild pitches with four ground outs and six fly outs. His ERA in A+ Palm Beach is now 1.16 with a 1.10 WHIP.
