Dynasty Trade - Top Prospects
I won my 20 team Dynasty League last year, and have purged my MiLB roster to add reinforcements this off-season. My current roster looks like the following;
Wieters, Ryan Howard, Weeks, Longoria, Andrus, Brandon Belt, Ellsbury, J.Upton, B.Upton, Alex Rios, Saltalamacchia
Lester, Haren, Josh Johnson, Darvish, Liriano, Kimbrel, Storen, Heath Bell, Jordan Walden, Greg Holland, Samardzijia, Bedard, Pelfrey, Cashner, Dice-K
Minor League Roster: Giavotella, Matt Dominguez, Edward Salcedo, Jonathon Schoop, Chris Carter, Destin Hood, Brett Jackson, Stetson Allie, Chris Archer, Alex Wimmers, Kelvin Herrera
I'm looking for a backup at 2B, 3B, and SS. I have an offer on the table that would bring me the following;
Jed Lowie, 3B-SS, HOU + 21st Overall MiLB Draft Pick + $5 Bidding Cash
FOR
Brett Jackson, OF, CHC + Jonathon Schoop, MI, BAL + Chris Carter, 1B, OAK
The MiLB pick at 21 would likely be a very good one as any player drafted in 2011 or signed after January 1st of 2011 is eligible to be taken. So I feel like I'd be getting a good prospect in return. So the question is, I think Lowrie will be solid in Houston as a full-timer but is it worth giving up Brett Jackson with my current roster? Also, each team gets $30 bidding cash to use once the season gets underway to bid on MiLB players that are still available after the draft and can be used the entire season until you run out. Please shoot away with your opinions, I value them greatly.

How did you score Darvish if he hasn't signed yet
I’d make the trade.
- your outfield is strong enough to lose Jackson
- I like Schoop but you don’t need him either
- Belt better than Carter short and long term I think
I think this was a good draft for starters - I’d be happy with Sonny Gray or Daniel Norris at 21.

I nabbed Darvish in our innaugral MiLB draft in 2008 when unsigned International Talent was allowed to be drafted. The next year the rule in our league was changed and International guys were no longer allowed to be drafted until they signed.
My thinking for this deal is young SP’ing is hard to come by in this league, and no one seems super high on Jackson where they’d deal a top 10 SP prospect for him. If I can get a good SP prospect at 21, and also have a good backup at 3B and SS with upside to be a top 8-10 SS if he’s healthy for 500 AB’s then that seems to be a smart deal for me.

i dont like the trade for you
the trade is pretty even actually, but i dont see that this trade is all that good for you. i like lowrie some, but with andrus at ss and longoria at 3b, lowrie is a bench player for you. i know thats what you said you wanted- a bench player, but surely you could get somethin better for jackson. i dont mind you giving up carter, he’s one step away from being a bust, but you’re also giving up schoop, who could be just as valuable a backup infielder as lowrie. you’ve basically got the backup you need already on your team, hes just a bit further out. before making that trade i would see what else is out there, or you could try reworking your deal to include a solid prospect instead of lowrie, or maybe rework the deal just for the pick. like i said its not a bad trade in terms of evenness goes, but like i said id see what else i could find first

Like I said, teams appear lukewarm at best on Jackson and/or Schoop. Teams that are rebuilding already have a future CF’er or teams that are going for it have someone over the hill that they’d move but that’s about it. I feel like I should be able to get a little more for Jackson, and Schoop for that matter but the market is a little dry. What’s making me want to do it is that I feel I don’t need Jackson with Ellsbury, BJ Upton, and Rios all CF eligible and Rios is the oldest at 31. And I don’t feel Schoop will be ready for another 2 years at the earliest, which by then Lowrie would only be 29 and in his prime. Also hopefully by then, I could acquire a future MI to replace Schoop either through the MiLB Draft or Bidding. Also, like I said the 21st overall should theoretically net me a very solid pitching prospect which going into this MiLB Draft and season is what I’m going to focus on developing.

Lowrie
Honestly is a better hitter then Jackson at a more premium position… if he can ever stay healthy.
I do like the trade for you

beware the platoon split
…on Lowrie. And injuries. I held Lowrie for most of last season, and I gave up on him out of frustration.

Even being in this league, I think the Lowrie side is a better fit for your roster. As you said, he gives you depth at 3B, SS. Also, we both know there will be a very solid prospect at #21.
