One Last Visit

I'm going to Minnesota tomorrow to see the Saturday game between the Twins and the Royals in the Metrodome. I wanted to see it one last time, and I'll get to visit my childhood friend Brent as well. Jeri is feeling a lot better, both from swine flu and from surgery, so all systems look go.

I will be back Sunday night and will check up on things here using my laptop, so no running amok please.

Assuming no falling pianos, I should return to operational status on Monday. Plans for next week include catching up on Rotowire updates, resuming a normal posting schedule here, and beginning work on the 2010 book.

attending over 100 games there in my life...

and attending games at different stadiums around the country just opens your eyes to how bad a baseball stadium the homerdome is…

That said, it is the end of an era, an era that included two world series wins and the franchise turning from one of the worst in baseball my freshman year in college to perennial division contenders before I left college. Hopefully Target Field can have similar success.

glad Jeri's better

and….so sad to see one of the Old Stadiums go….Ugh, here comes the new soulless corporate building, I mean Stadium :).

I fully disagree.

The dome is a football stadium with horrible sightlines for baseball. If you sit down the third base line, you will have a stiff neck the next day if you actually want to watch the batter. It was built on a tight budget for both the Twins and Vikes. IT is a soulless, cheap building that I won’t miss.
I haven’t went to a lot of games there, but am also going on saturday to say adios. Target field is also being built on the cheap beacuse it doesn’t have a retractable roof(when will we learn) but it will be a great place to watch baseball. Even when it’s cold out, there will be warming stations for fan comfort and a Kasota stone exterior for a touch of Minnesota in the design. I personally can’t wait to take in a game at Target Field.

echo

to your statements on the stadium, i fully agree…even for college football, it was a terrible stadium…it was built for the vikings, with add-ons to make it work for college and baseball….tcf bank stadium is a wonderful stadium, and from all i hear and read, target field is as well….if i were in the cities still, i’d be heading out for the final game, but as it is, i can’t wait for opening of the stadium in 2010 (i’ve already gone in with a friend for a partial season ticket package that guarantees opening night seats)….

thank goodness for outdoor baseball!

Metrodome Memories

I have fond memories of the Metrodome as a baseball stadium. I remember being 7 or 8 and standing in line to see my first Twins game. I still remember the 1st time I saw the blue seats. Also game 2 1987 ALCS and game 1 1987 World Series.

My final baseball game at the Dome was August 25th against the Orioles. I took my 2 sons to the game(4 and 6 years old). We sat 12 rows up from the plate(last time I can afford to take them to such good seats). When Delmon Young hit the walk-off single to right to win it, my 6 year old was out of his seat faster than I was out of mine. That is what I’ll remember about my last Twins trip to the dome.

Thanks for the memories Dome!

I can not wait for Target Field. Outdoor baseball is aweome.

i'm mostly glad Zack got the ND

it might be the first time ALL YEAR that he’s been bailed out of a loss.

i really hope this mediocre game (really…one bad inning) won’t lose him the CY.

John

are you going to stick around for the game on Tuesday?

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
