Merry Draft Day everyone. The 2016 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft gets underway today. Here are the basics that you need to know:

WHEN IS THE DRAFT?

The Draft begins tonight at 7 PM Eastern time, with MLB Network's preview show going live at 6 PM. Tonight teams will select players in the first and in the compensation rounds and the second round. The draft then continues on Friday and Saturday.

WHAT HAPPENS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY?

On Friday teams select players for rounds three through 10, starting at 1 PM eastern. On Saturday rounds 11 through 40 are drafted, starting at noon Eastern.

WHO ARE THESE GUYS AND HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO KEEP TRACK OF THEM?

You can find reports on 60 players expected to be chosen early right here at Minor League Ball. We will be adding players to that list as the next few days progress, with the ultimate goal of having a report on every player picked in the two rounds.

MLB.com will be streaming MLB Network's coverage all three days and they also have a very useful draft tracker.

We will be providing continuing coverage this afternoon, starting with a rumor and discussion thread going live at 3 PM central time. We will also be live-blogging each pick as it happens, with a quick take on each player and how quickly they may contribute to their new organization.

Coverage will continue into next week with summaries of each class, favorite sleeper picks, and lots of discussion! We're just getting started.
