Atlanta Braves rookie Hector Olivera was arrested this morning in Arlington, Virginia, on suspicion of assault and domestic violence. Multiple news sources report that the female victim called police to the Ritz Carlton hotel early this morning where the Braves were staying. The woman had bruises and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Olivera was taken into custody by police but (as of 10:30 AM CDT) has yet to be formally charged.
MLB has moved quickly and has already placed Olivera on administrative leave pending investigation by the commissioner's office and whatever steps will be taken by the legal system.
We'll keep track of the story. You can also follow along at TalkingChop, SB Nation's Atlanta Braves community.
Obviously the health and safety of the victim and getting to the bottom of what happened are more important than any baseball considerations. Please keep that in mind during any discussion.
