Game Recaps from Friday, October 24th

Peoria 9 - Mesa 4

Mesa came out swinging, throwing a crooked number on the board in the first inning with four runs crossing the plate. That would be all for the offense though as Peoria scored nine unanswered runs for their 9-4 victory. LF Jordan Smith (PEJ) led the charge with a 3-3 day, knocking a pair of singles and a double, scoring once and driving in two with a sac fly as well. SS Raul Mondesi (PEJ) doubled and singled, scoring both times with a stolen base, and 1B Patrick Leonard (PEJ) was 2-4 with a run scored and RBI, also striking out twice with a stolen base as well. RF Jacob Hannemann (MSS) gathered a pair of base knocks, both singles, scoring once with two strike outs and a fielding error. 1B Dan Vogelbach (MSS) also had two singles and drove in one himself. Both starters were rocked with neither making it out of the second inning. RHP Dylan Baker (PEJ) only recorded one out, allowing three hits and three walks with four runs crossing the dish. LHP Felipe Rivero (MSS) took the loss by allowing five runs on four hits and a walk in 1.2 innings of work, striking out one, hitting a batter and uncorking a wild pitch.

Salt River 8 - Glendale 1

The Rafters pitching staff was able to scatter 10 hits from the Desert Dogs en route to an 8-1 thrashing. DH Trevor Story (SRR) plated four runs with a pair of doubles, two walks, a run scored, and a strike out. RF Byron Buxton (SRR) and LF Andrew Aplin (SRR) each racked up three hits a piece with Buxton also stealing a base, scoring two runs and driving in two with a pair of singles and a double. CF Tyrone Taylor (GDD) also had three singles but was stranded on base each time. Each starter went four innings with no runs allowed, but neither factored in the decision.. RHP Archie Bradley (SRR) allowed five hits and a walk with two strike outs, and RHP Zach Davies (GDD) struck out five with four hits and a walk surrendered.

Surprise 2 - Scottsdale 1

Another pitcher's duel formed between the Scorpions and Saguaros with Surprise coming out on top by a slim one run margin. SS Deven Marrero (SUR) reached base three times with a pair of doubles and a walk, also scoring once with a punch out. LF Jesse Winker (SUR) was also on base three times with a walk, a triple and a single, scoring once with a strike out, a stolen base, and an outfield assist. C Pat Cantwell (SUR) and 3B DJ Peterson (SUR) knocked in the only two runs of the game with each player hitting an RBI single. DH Dan Gamache (SCO), 3B Dante Bichette Jr (SCO), and SS Kelby Tomlinson (SCO) all had two singles in the game but all were stranded on base. Tomlinson also stole his sixth base of the Fall in the contest. RHP Tyler Glasnow (SCO) struck out six through three innings, walking one with three hits allowed, and opposing starter RHP Stephen Landazuri (SUR) went three frames as well, allowing one run on two walks and five hits with two punch outs.
