Game Recaps from Thursday, October 23rd
Mesa 7 - Scottsdale 3
Despite being outhit by the Scorpions 11-7, the Mesa Solar Sox scored twice in three consecutive innings to take home the win 7-3.1B Matt Olson (MSS), and SS Addison Russell (MSS) both left the yard with Olson launching his fourth, a solo shot in the 4th inning, also walking, striking out and scoring twice. Russell hit a two-run shot in the 7th, also striking out once. 3B Kaleb Cowart (MSS) reached three times with a triple, a walk, a single, and his third stolen base. Starting pitcher LHP Nate Smith (MSS) was knocked around for three runs in as many innings, allowing seven hits, including a pair of long balls, a walk and three punch outs. A trio of relievers handled two scoreless innings a piece, highlighted by RHP Chris O'Grady (MSS) who earned the win with two hits and a walk allowed, striking out one for his second W of the Fall.
RHP Rob Whalen (SCO) did his part for Scottsdale, going four innings in his start with one run allowed on two hits, a walk, and five strike outs. Whalen's only mistake was giving up the solo shot to Olson. SS Matt Reynolds (SCO) hit his second homer of the Fall, also singling in the contest. LF Tyler Austin (SCO) also hit one out, a solo homer for his only hit of the game. RF Aaron Judge (SCO) and 1B Greg Bird (SCO) each doubled with Bird also adding a single. C Elias Diaz (SCO) reached base three times, working a walk with two singles and a run scored as well.

Glendale 2 - Peoria 1
A pitcher's duel in Peoria ended with the visiting squad holding a slim one run lead for over half the game with the death blow being an RBI double in the 3rd inning. SS Corey Seager (GDD) was responsible for the go-ahead RBI with his sixth double, also walking twice, and LF Scott Schebler (GDD) hit a solo homer in the 2nd inning to take the wholeshot. DH Tim Anderson (GDD) pitched in two singles, scoring once with a strike out, and 2B Domingo Leyba (GDD) also racked up a pair of singles. Starting pitcher LHP Wei-Chung Wang (GDD) lasted four frames, allowing a single unearned run on three hits and a walk, striking out two. RHP Tyler Wagner (GDD) earned the save with a perfect 9th inning, striking out one with no hits, walks, or runs allowed.
Peoria was on the receiving end of a solid start from RHP Tyrell Jenkins (PEJ) who went five innings while allowing two runs on three hits and two walks. Jenkins struck out two, allowed the solo shot to Schebler, and his record moved to 0-2. The Javelinas offense was unable to get an extra base knock, collecting six singles by six different hitters. 3B Hunter Dozier (PEJ) and RF Edward Salcedo (PEJ) were the only two to reach base twice with each player working a walk and singling while Dozier scored the only run and Salcedo also struck out. C Cody Stanley (PEJ) stole his first base and also pitched in an RBI single.

Salt River 5 - Surprise 3
Salt River and Surprise traded blows early with the score knotted at three after four innings before the Rafters scored in back to back innings to take a 5-3 lead which would hold up. SS Austin Nola (SRR) was on base three times with a pair of walks and a double, driving in one and scoring once himself. RF Max Kepler (SRR) also doubled and walked, plating one and striking out twice. 1B Peter O'Brien (SRR) had the only other extra base hit with a double as well, coming around to score once with a strike out. LF Eddie Rosario (SRR) drove in three in the contest, singling twice with two stolen bases and a walk. RHP Anthony DeSclafani (SRR) allowed three runs in five innings of work, surrendering five hits and a walk with six strike outs and a home run allowed for the win. RHP Enrique Burgos (SRR) was spitting hot fire, striking out two in a perfect 9th inning for his second save.
RHP Lisalverto Bonilla (SUR) had a rough go at it, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks through 4.2 innings with six punch outs as well for his first loss. LF Patrick Kivlehan (SUR) continues to mash in the desert, hitting his fourth homer of the Fall in the 4th inning, a two-run shot to left, and he also walked. CF Nick Williams (SUR) doubled and scored a run, striking out twice while DH Jace Peterson (SUR) was 2-3 with a walk and a run scored, stealing a pair of bases. 2B Sean Coyle (SUR) and 1B DJ Peterson (SUR) each stole a base after reaching on a walk.
