Very close voting last round. We went with pedigree over last year's performance and so picked Xander Bogaerts as our number 2 prospect for future performance among last year's rookies. Using the scoring system of 3 points for a first place vote and 1 point for a second place vote (apologies to the one of you who enthusiastically also placed a third place vote), the final results were 20 points for Bogaerts to 16 for Mookie Betts. Masahiro Tanaka came in third with 11 points, followed by Joe Panik and Jake Odorizzi (write in) with three each. Two points for Gregory Polanco, and one for George Springer. Zero for Nick Castellanos, Colin McHugh and James Paxton.
1. Jose Abreu 1b Chicago White Sox
2. Xander Bogaerts SS/3B Boston Red Sox
We'll drop Castellanos, McHugh and Paxton temporarily and get them back on the ballot in a couple of rounds. We'll get Jake Odorizzi back on the ballot as he got a first place vote last round and also Marcus Stroman, leaving as temporarily dropped
Oscar Taveras 0 votes (round 1), Nick Castellanos 0 votes (round 2), Colin McHugh 0 votes (round 2), James Paxton 0 votes (round 2)
I'll leave on everyone who got a vote last round (reserving the right to temporarily drop Panik if he doesn't broaden his support this round). I'll also add Danny Santana and Kevin Gausman for the first time.
Players who are still on the list to get their first time on the ballot in the next few rounds are Rougned Odor and Jake deGrom. I'm adding Yordano Ventura and Billy Hamilton to that list. Please suggest others in the discussion section.
So, who is your #3 prospect among last year's rookie class?
