Game Recaps from Tuesday, October 22nd

Mesa 9 - Scottsdale 3

Mesa was led by a four-hit game from C Pedro Severino (MSS) as they tallied 15 hits and worked seven free passes to blow out the Scorpions 9-3. Severino tripled and singled three times, scoring once and driving in one. An early six run lead allowed RHP Ivan Pineyro (MSS) to earn the win despite allowing three runs in 2.2 innings on two hits and a walk, striking out three. His one big mistake was a three-run homer allowed to 2B LJ Mazzilli (SCO). The rest of the pen shut down the Scorpions offense for the remainder of the contest. Four other Solar Sox registered a multi-hit game, including CF Chad Hinshaw (MSS) who was 2-3 with three walks, two stolen bases, two runs scored, an RBI and a punch out. RF Bijan Rademacher (MSS) reached base three times with a walk and a pair of singles, scoring twice, stealing his third base of the Fall and also making a fielding error.

Mazzilli would go 2-4 in the game with his home run and a single while C Logan Moore (SCO) doubled and struck outLHP Tom Harlan (SCO) took the loss after getting slapped around for five runs in just one inning of work, allowing four hits and three walks with one punch out.

Glendale 10 - Peoria 1

2B Darnell Sweeney (GDD) was on fire against the Javelinas, hitting his first home run of the Fall to go with a pair of doubles and a single, scoring twice and driving in four runs. For the second straight game, LF Garabez Rosa (GDD) went deep for the Desert Dogs, knocking a solo shot to left to lead off the 5th inning. He also singled twice, and scored two runs. SS Corey Seager (GDD) added his fifth double, also working a walk and hitting a single, plating a man and scoring himself once. CF Tyrone Taylor (GDD) came around to score three runs on a pair of singles and a hit by pitch, also stealing a bag. LHP Robbie Ray (GDD) worked four solid innings for the win, allowing one run on three hits and two walks, striking out five in the process. RHP Brooks Hall (GDD) followed with two perfect frames, striking out two with no walks, hits or runs.

RHP Miguel Almonte (PEJ) was the hard luck loser, pitching well enough with two runs allowed in three innings on just one hit, one walk, and a hit batter. His main problem was the only hit was a home run from Sweeney with Taylor on base. The Peoria offense scattered four hits with RF Jordan Smith (PEJ) driving in the only run with a single, and he also struck out twice. Sure handed SS Francisco Lindor (PEJ) was 1-4 at the plate with a single and he also made his second error of the Fall, uncorking a bad throw.

Salt River 9 - Surprise 2

C Chris O'Dowd (SRR) drove home three with a 3-4 performance, leading Salt River with a double, two singles, a run scored and he was caught stealing. LF Evan Marzilli (SRR) also reached three times, working a walk with two singles, two runs batted in, three runs scored, and he also swiped his second base. LF Max Kepler (SRR) had two hits in the game, a double and a triple, with two strike outs while DH Joe Sclafani (SRR) plated three with a walk, single, and a double. SS Trevor Story (SRR) got in on the thievery as well, stealing his second base of the Fall on the heels of a 1-3 game including two walks and two punch outs. 2B Taylor Featherston (SRR) also tripled and singled for the Rafters, scoring once and driving home one. LHP Jayson Aquino (SRR) worked four innings for the win, striking out three with two runs allowed on three hits and a walk, including a bomb shot from 2B Juan Perez (SUR). The Salt River bullpen would not allow another hit the rest of the game with RHP Brian Ellington (SRR) and RHP Mitch Lambson (SRR) each walking two batters in their respective innings of work.

A rough start from RHP Nick Howard (SUR) put the Saguaros in a early hole as he surrendered five runs in 3.1 innings on seven base knocks, three walks, and two strike outs. Howard took the loss, also throwing a wild pitch. Perez had the only extra base hit for Surprise, hitting a two run homer to right in the 3rd inning, while also adding a walk and a strike out. 3B Seth Mejias-Brean (SUR) reached base twice with a single and a walk, scoring once and also stealing a base. CF Nick Williams (SUR) was the only other Saguaro to get a hit while LF Jesse Winker (SUR) worked a pair of walks in four tries.
