After waiting for nearly two days for it to either be a tie or for one of them to open a more substantial lead, it never happened. Instead, Tanaka continued to cling to a small lead, so I'm calling it for Tanaka. Based on the 3 points for a first place vote, one for a second place vote scoring system, Tanaka gets 25 points to 23 for Betts. After that, it is a big drop off to Gregory Polanco with 7 points and George Springer with 5. Also receiving some support were Joe Panik (3 points), Danny Santana (3 points), and write ins Javier Baez and Oscar Taveras with 2 points and one point respectively.
1. Jose Abreu 1b Chicago White Sox
2. Xander Bogaerts SS/3B Boston Red Sox
3. Masahiro Tanaka Pitcher New York Yankees
We'll drop Odorizzi and Gausman this round and get them back soon.. Taveras was due to come back on the ballot so we'll add him, and also Marcus Stroman, leaving as temporarily dropped
Nick Castellanos 0 votes (round 2), Colin McHugh 0 votes (round 2), James Paxton 0 votes (round 2), Jake Odorizzi 0 votes (round 3), Kevin Gausman 0 votes (round 3)
I'll leave on everyone who got a vote last round including write in Javier Baez. In honor of the World Series (and because he deserves it) I'll add Yordano Ventura for the first time..
Players who are still on the list to get their first time on the ballot in the next few rounds are Rougned Odor and Jake deGrom, and Billy Hamilton. I'm going to add to that list Dellin Betances, Ken Giles and Travis d"Arnaud. Please suggest others in the discussion section.
As a reminder voting is by +1 for your first choice and +2 for your second choice.
