Which players are you guys looking forward the most to follow?

I was just checking some of the rosters that have been updated by MiLB.COM or reports on twitter or other outlets and some have already jumped out at me so I thought this could be a place to discuss some of the guys that prospect followers are getting giddy about reading the box score or if lucky enough go watch them live.

Joe Ross and Austin Hedges debuting in Low-A together has me intrigued especially Hedges. Prior to the draft, reports said that his defense was way ahead of his offense and that his bat may not develop but since the draft, reports have raved about him at the plate. It was a hefty bonus so I'll be following him with a keen eye early on.

Jurickson Profar in AA is another one. The Rangers are challenging him with an aggressive placement but what if he excels? could he possibly make his Major League debut this season? I normally just stay with the lower minors but this year I'll have to checkout AA with Profar, Taveras and Walker all in AA as teenagers.

I know there are many more but I'll let you guys chime in.....Can't wait for the Minor League season to get going.

Hedges

Also very interested in him. I actually played against him in high school and I remember him gunning out our best base stealer twice in one game. The bat wasn’t anything special to me, even though him being only a sophomore might have had something to do with it.

I’m always interested in local products that I’ve played against so Travis Harrison of the Mets will be on my radar as well.

Yeah

As I eluded to in the post he has been getting rave reviews with the bat in Spring Training and Instructional League. Thats cool that you played against him.

In AA…

the klaw scouting report was rather glowing and I think he could be a mid season top50 with the kind of #’s he can toss up in that park.

Another guy I should have mentioned above was Ronny Rodrguez

He may struggled quite a bit moving up to High A but who knows maybe he makes some progress.

Cards

As a Cards fan I keep an eye on the Cards prospects closely. Here are the 2012 guys that I am very excited to keep an eye on:

Kolten Wong (How far will he jump up the system in 2012?)
Trevor Rosenthal (Will make a huge jump forward in prospect rankings by years end)
Charlie Tilson (First full year of pro ball)
Tommy Pham (He still has all the skills to be productive - can he stay healthy?)
Anthony Garcia (Big sleeper for me)
Chris Edmondson (Big sleeper for me)
Hector Hernandez
Nick Longmire (can he bounce back?)
Ryan Jackson (can he continue to hit advanced pitching?)
Tyler Rahmatulla (I’m a fan)

Tilson

I live in Saint Louis and heard Tilson will start in extended.

couple guys jumping to A+

Torreyes at Daytona and Bogaerts at Salem. Both guys intrigue me (in different ways).

If the O’s move Bundy to A+ instead of starting him at Delmarva, that will also be intriguing (though risky, IMO.)

A few sleepers/guys returning from injury

Garin Cecchini, Parker Bridwell, Vincent Velasquez, Rougned Odor, Randal Grichuk, Alex Dickerson

by dbreer23 on Apr 1, 2026 7:49 PM EDT reply actions

Some guys from the Rays for me,

Mikie Mahtook-really think he is going to be good
Tyler Goeddel- Everyone says his bat is advanced and in a suprising move, the Rays are starting him in full season A Ball even though he came out of High School
Enny Romero- Hopefully the command improves this year
Drew Vettleson-Can he get more consistent this year?
Jeff Malm- I think he breaks out this year and becomes one of the top power prospects in the minors
Taylor Guerirreri-Quite obvious he was the Rays 1st pick and has a ton of potential
Oscar Hernandez-Is the hitting for real or was a product of the VSL Field?

Non-Rays
Henry Owens- I really liked him in the draft and was hoping the Rays would draft him, unfortunetly the Red Sox drafted him.
Dan Vogelbach-Yet another guy I thought the Rays should of drafted
Brandon Nimmo-Very toolsy, want to see how he translates to Pro Ball
CJ Cron-Another Draft favorite
Jedd Gyorko- I like his bat
Jaff Decker-I think he has a nice rebound year

No matter how much they are hyped, my teams always find a way to disappoint.
And at the #5 pick in the Draft, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select: Someone that is hopefully not Trent RIchardson!

by thedudeofdudes on Apr 1, 2026 8:10 PM EDT reply actions

Vogelbach!!!!!!!!

from what I read and heard around the park at that time
The incident was way overblown and hé wasn’t throwing the bat at the umpire, yes it ended up in his general direction but it was more just a fling aimlessly. It was a road game so I didn’t see it but I talked to people who were there at the time.

me

Tyler Goeddel-2012 Christian Yelich
Jake Hager-The bat will impress
Charlie Tilson-IMO will be ranked in the Cardinals Top 5 next year
Tyrell Jenkins-Can he do what Walker did last year
Michael Fulmer-I like him quite a bit
Mason Hope-He could end up being the Marlins best arm this time next year in the minors
Parker Bridwell-Burnett comps, hope he isn’t a headcase like him

Pirates homer pick: Stetson Allie

Some of the guys watching Pirates minor league camp were saying that his control was looking remarkably better. (Which means it had improved to wild, maybe.) If he can put it together instead of going down the Neighborgall track he could be very very interesting.

Not actually affiliated with whygavs.

Might have a bit of a personal bias spin to it

But I have a bunch of guys on my own keeper team with various interesting discussion points:

Wil Myers: Will he follow the path of former converted catcher Brett Lawrie to blossoming stardom?

Miguel Sano: This is a guy who has been described as having Miguel Cabrera upside if everything breaks right, but we’ve yet to see him outside of the rookie league. But then again, he was born in 1993. Man, do I feel old…

Ryan Lavarnway: Will he stay behind the dish or is the glove a lost cause? That’s the $64,000 question in Boston.

Jarrod Parker: Looked like an ace before the injury, hasn’t necessarily regained that form yet, but Oakland is one of the better parks for a young pitcher to learn to take his licks in.

Danny Hultzen & Taljuan Walker: Speaking of guys who get a slight bump assuming they stick in their current organization, Walker and Hultzen will get to call Safeco Park home for their pre-arb years. Entirely different players, it will be interesting to see if Hultzen gets the call to the bigs this year, and whether or not Walker can build upon last season and vault himself into the top ten.

Either way, it’s good to have baseball starting up again, and I look forward to being proven wrong on 90% of my predictions.

Cubs

In terms of the Cubs, one of the more intriguing, albeit not surprising, assignments (there’s been a lot of “demotions” and a lot of high ceiling guys being sent to XST) is Marco Hernandez at Peoria. Tools wise, he offers a potentially solid defensive shortstop with good offensive ceiling. There’s some questions, as there are with many kids in XST going to full-season. But he’s 19, with an intriguing ceiling, and unlike some high ceiling guys, getting “pushed” a tiny bit.

by toonsterwu on Apr 2, 2026 9:22 AM EDT reply actions

I know you love Hernandez, and I agree, but I think I'm most excited for Jeimer Candelario from that system.

It should be a fun year to follow Cubs minors at basically every level - because they certainly wont be much fun at the big league level!

by bdlugz on Apr 2, 2026 9:51 AM EDT up reply actions

oh i'm excited about a lot of guys in the low levels

but many of them got sent to XST to start, or at least, it looks that way at this late hour (and several intriguing guys are on rehab). I don’t love Marco, I’m just really fascinated to see how his talent turns out partly because I think he’s a bit under-hyped based. It’s not hard to imagine an All-Star caliber shortstop who plays good defense, hits for a high average, and shows some pop … and it’s also not hard to imagine a Darwin Barney-esque type player.

I mean, Daytona is really dry in terms of intriguing talent overall (I can only count a handful of projected Daytona guys that look intriguing), and, positionally, outside of Golden, Chen, Easterling, and maybe Geiger (along with Hernandez), there isn’t a ton of intrigue with Peoria either, and I’m not sure how intrigued I am with Chen/Easterling/Geiger. (pitching in Peoria looks fascinating, though).

AA, positionally, looks “eh” to start. I imagine they will produce, with Rebel Ridling demoted to get regular time, but really, Ha/Lake are the most intriguing guys. The rotation in AA looks really intriguing, though, particularly with Nick Struck’s “demotion” (I’m thinking McNutt/Beeler/Antigua/Rhee/Struck, but there are some lefties there in the mix, and Alberto Cabrera was demoted as well). AAA obviously holds high intrigue because of Rizzo/Jackson, and to a lesser extent, Vitters, along with the decent arms there.

With the Cubs looking to keep Baez at short for the near future, I’ll be curious what happens if they deem Baez ready for Peoria. Granted, a lot may depend on how Marco performs.

by toonsterwu on Apr 2, 2026 10:14 AM EDT up reply actions

couple others

I actually think the pitching at Daytona is going to be relatively interesting: Kirk, Jokisch, Simpson (lot of attention on him), and Zych, among others. Plus Szczur and Torreyes in the field.

And Devoss will be at Peoria along with those guys, he’s pretty intriguing.

A player I

hear very little about that I liked out of High School is Cam Bedrosian. He had TJ surgery and is on his way back. I’m kind of excited to see how he does.

My Biased list

From the O’s system
Machado
Schoop
both Bundys
Delmonico
Mahoney (personal preference)

In general
J. Parker
Shelby Miller
Bradley
Starling
Rendon

Retreads
Coghlin and Snider, though it looks like Chris made the ML roster I would rather have seen him get 200 regular MiL ABs to get his timing down.

Bauer

I don’t think theirs another prospect out there who could potentially change the game the way bauer could

I was looking at this as not inlcuding top 20 guys

But yeah, Bauer is pretty exciting.

by cookiedabookie on Apr 2, 2026 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Bit of an overstatement, don't you think?

Just because Bauer has given specific names to things doesn’t make him revolutionary. His concepts of “effective velocity” and “pitch tunneling” have been around since before he was even born.

by nixa37 on Apr 2, 2026 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions

not talking about the names

but about his study of pitching…

imo he could usher in a new group of pitchers who understand the game at a deeper level than i have a good fastball and good breaking ball and ill throw what works

Junior Lake
