Top 100* List - Just in Time for Opening Day

*Technically the list has 101 prospects. Who's 101st? Scroll down.

Anyway, this is my Buried Treasure top 100 list. I'm sure not everyone will agree with every placement, but I put significant time and work into it, so I do hope y'all like it. Each player's name links to a page with a short write-up that doubles as a placement explanation and scouting report (generally). There isn't an individual page for each player; there are a total of 10 pages, so you won't have to open 101 different pages. I would love feedback, both positive and negative, so go ahead and like (this is facebook right?), criticize and/or flame the list. Thanks!

Mahtook

I like the MahtookI ranking. Seems like he gets lost in the shuffle in most rankings, falling well out of the top 100. But it’s too bad - there’s not much separating him and Springer. In fact, he may have fewer questions regarding his power and contact ability than Springer. He could move quickly with a good year.

Love the aggressive ranking of Simmons

I’d drop Vizcaino significantly further following TJS.

Don’t see any rankings that really stick out as being too low or too high. Looks good overall.

I honestly

didn’t know what to do with Viz so I took the lazy route. Giving it 10 seconds of thought, it’d probably make sense to move him back to somewhere in the 80-100 range.

One thing I find interesting is how Syndergaard is ranked.

Most analysts had him around 7th among Jays prospects, and yet when the Jays made a hard push for Gio it was Syndergaard the A’s wanted over any other prospect. I wouldn’t necessarily put him above D’Arnaud but I think he is very underrated.

Btw - I think you will want Guerrier on this list and Campos higher. These three prospects will catch some serious helium this year and all be in the top 50 by mid-season.

good stuff as usual

But unless I’m missing him, I am on my phone, don’t see Casey Kelly?? He is top 30 for me and really appears to be vastly underated by many.

Also have Joe Ross in my top 50, he is gonna be a big riser this year on lists…also think Hellweg will too, he is gonna but up sick numbers in AA.

Seems like most people have forgotten John Lamb, clearly a back end 100 guy, but he will be back!

repeated a year

did better but still was average. barely struck anyone out despite some solid command. never saw the immense hype he got two years back

Although i don't prefer Simmons or Marte in the top 50

The rest of the list is pretty solid.

SImmons has Ben Revere like power…. I just don’t see how he’s any higher than squeaking in the bacck end in the 80’s - 90’s range. + his defense is a little overrated imo. Pastornicky beat him out pretty solidly in that aspect this spring.

Most would say that his defense is rated fairly accurately

plus there is no way in hell Pastornicky’s defense has looked better this spring

Couldn't be more wrong

Simmons is incredible defensively while Pastornicky clearly can’t handle the position. That’s the reason the on-field personnel were pushing the FO to take Simmons over Pastornicky. Simmons is also going to eventually surprise with his power. He’s got good bat speed and an aggressive swing. He’s nothing like the slap people he was made out to be.

You can place him wherever

and you can make a solid argument but Gary Sanchez is a top 100 prospect at the least.

Eh... I'm under the impression he has no chance to stick at Catcher

As such, a guy with a career 27% K rate, even if it comes with solid power, who’s destined for 1B doesn’t quite do it for me. He didn’t miss by much, but I’m just not that big a fan. He certainly could prove me wrong though.

by McCutchenIsTheTruth on Apr 1, 2026 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions

While his defense is bad

he’s not limited to physical limitations like Montero. It’s something that can be improved as passable with time. Scouts have said he has an even bigger natural knack for hitting that Montero since he’s more patient and showcases really good power.

He’s only 18 already playing full season ball, a 27 k% doesn’t bother me in the latest. Now if you think his defense can’t improve and he’s immature I still think he belongs on a top 100 list.

nice work

always have to congratulate folks on completing a project like this. now the question: no Rizzo??

by PrincetonCubs on Apr 1, 2026 5:57 PM EDT reply actions

Thanks

From Buster Olney at the time of the trade.

Rival talent evaluators were taken aback by how overwhelmed Rizzo looked against even mediocre fastballs last summer; to many, it looked like Rizzo simply lacked the kind of bat speed needed to be a productive major-leaguer. "What I saw scared the (bleep) out of me, to be honest," said one AL official, describing how he saw Rizzo get tied up inside by right-handers throwing 88-90 mph fastballs.

Thanks for congrats! Rizzo definitely will have the opportunity to prove me wrong.

yeah

I remember that report..personally found it totally bizarre, as he hit RHPs decently well even in his crappy 150 ABs, and he absolutely destroyed them in AAA and this spring. His being able to deal with good/decent lefties is more my concern. Either way, gotta believe he’s a better prospect than Gyorko, for example.

Again, congrats.

It's possible

This is my first 100 list so I wouldn’t be surprised if it sucks 2 years from now.

by McCutchenIsTheTruth on Apr 1, 2026 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Good list

Granted Simmons at 49 made me scratch my head, especially when I see Josh Bell 43 spots below him, but it’s always fun to see who individuals value higher (and lower) when they do lists. Good job.

by Looney4baseball on Apr 1, 2026 8:31 PM EDT reply actions

I do like Simmons

Guess I’m a sucker for a plus-plus defensive SS. Bell is really old for his class. Makes me pause when it comes to him.
