It was a HBP yesterday
Not sure what the injury is though. Hopefully not too serious…

nah
mostly empty singles. The HR was the only real damage because it came with a runner on. The 3rd run scored after he was taken out. Snyder took a line drive off the head that some how turned in to a double to score the run.

The velocity would be the concerning part
The results dont matter to me.
by alskor on Jul 28, 2025 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah
well if you have a bad day, and you are frustrated/angry (which, by the descriptions, Bum matched) your velocity will drop, you won’t be loose and you’ll overthrow. for this to happen for a young guy in AA is still fine, but like i said before, if it continues, I’ll worry.

Heyward with a homer
That’s his 15th extra base hit in 66 AA at-bats against only 5 strikeouts. Pretty impressive
by was385 on Jul 28, 2025 8:24 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Not to mention, over the past 10 games...
10 of his 16 hits have gone for extra bases with a 7 to 3 BB to K ratio. The guy is a beast.

I’ve never really been a fan of the “First letter of first name, first syllable of last name” nickname formula, but J-Up is beyond ridiculous.

also, on an unrelated note Heyward had two more hits and a walk in the second game tonight. The man is just a machine, pure and simple. Now hitting .435 with a 5/12 K/BB in 81 AA plate appearances
Still though, no matter what he does, I think he should finish the season in AA or at the very most get a few weeks in AAA to end the season. The Braves need to be patient and not risk anything on this guy.

Um........
Try 3-3 wiith a BB in the second game. He had the walk off single that won the game 1-0. The kid is doing OK I say………geez! Stay hot Heyward!

.242 IsoP, .075 IsoD (considered his biggest weakness coming into the season his walk rate is now above 10%) .386 wOBA, .873 OPS. And this is from a player who is playing mostly CF (and has been given good reports) with one of the best outfield arms in the minor leagues. He has really broke out this year.
by J51 on Jul 29, 2025 9:02 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He could be top 50 bound
going in to next year. He has very few weaknesses, and has improved upon his plate discipline and strike zone judgment dramatically.

Just wanted to mention Alvarez again...
So far tonight he’s 2-3 with 2 doubles with a walk. The most impressive thing is he hasn’t struck out in his last 21 PAs! The guy has heated up, and in the last 10 games has really cut back on his strikeout rate!

I must say he is beginning to impress me. I remember when the draft prep began for the 2008 draft back in 2007, Pedro pretty much universally regarded as the top bat in the draft. Unfortunately for him, then broke his hamate bone, has a bit of a down year, and all of the questions begin to surface. Certainly it is still a SSS and the K rate is still concerning despite dropping dramatically the last 5 games but I’m very impressed with what he has been able to do in his first pro season so far. He came into camp out of shape, his knees were still bothering him, and he struggled at a level everyone thought he could handle but fought through it earning his promotion where he has hit even better.
I asked if he would get promoted to AA about a week before it happened. Pirates have a tendency (even before NH) to rush their top prospects a bit, does anyone think they start considering him for AAA soon? I think letting him continue to work on his approach and build confidence in AA is a good thing but I wrong about feeling he needed a little more time in A+ before the promotion he got. It’s been an interesting couple of years following Alvarez that is for sure.

Tennesse rained out...
Damn wanted to see Cashner pitch. My guy tells me that this guy will be a valuable rotation guy for the Cubs next year. Some think he will be moved to the pen, but he has done very well for himself this year as a starter.

I thought it was injury related...
also read that he hooked up with Boras and decided to rehab outside of KC’s environment, which didn’t sit well with the org.
Any info on the law issues?

he was legitimately injured earlier, but he was healthy enough to pitch by May. the Boras thing was apparently overblown. i don’t know all of the details there.

Second strong start in a row. It’s possible the Pirates will give him a late season call up, but the K discrepancy, and lack of GB tendency will hold him back from being anything special.

we'll see
it’s easy to like his upside, but he still has A LOT of room to get better. still lacks a changeup and i’ve heard he doesn’t have the best of attitude. not a bad attitude in that he’s an ass…more like he gets pissed easily, takes losing VERY hard and it hurts him, and in general loses concentration.
i’m not trying to be too much of the downer here, but those are just things i have heard. i see him as a future setup guy with his FB/CB if he can get his head on straight.
