Does this qualify as a breakout

Alejandro Sanbia is putting up some pretty impressive #'s in High A FSL. Just curious has anyone seen him in action and can go beyond the stats and offer a little scouting. I'm not surprised to see another Florida Marlins Power Forward emerging.

More than meets the eye

Honestly, his component ratios aren’t significantly better than they had been in the past. Most of the improvement is due to home run rate and hit rate, and he’s pitching in a severely pitcher-friendly park this year. Without knowing anything else about him, I’d venture that no, he’s not having a breakout.

Yeah, frankly, the K/9 is what would bother me. Just 41 K in 57.2 IP is not much of a breakout to me. I figure he’s just sporting a super low BABIP for one reason or another.

Sanabia

I saw him on 4/28 in St, Lucie.

They weren’t showing stadium readings for the Marlins guys, but my guess was he was throwing maybe 89-92. Pretty good FB, though it seemed to fade a bit early, by the 4th. The slider I though was just OK, and I saw a change up as well.

On the whole I saw him mostly as a good FB command guy. Not a real high ceiling guy, maybe a back end starter type.

FSL

The FSL makes crappy pitchers look good and good pitchers look great.

His ERA/WHIP are obviously inflated thanks to the pitcher-friendly surroundings, but he’s also having a very good year nonetheless. I assume he will get promoted to AA sometime towards the end of the year, and then we’ll know just how real this breakout is.
