Bryce Harper is enrolled at a junior college
Just posting this here as general prospect news. Bryce Harper is now enrolled at a Nevada junior college and will start classes in the fall. He’s scheduled to have his GED this fall and will play for the college’s baseball team next season. This does put him on track to be eligible for the 2010 draft.

Whoa
And his brother is transferring from Cal State Fullerton to pitch with him. That’s dedication.
A noob or n00b is someone that lacks intellegance or common sense, most people think that noob is a word used only in the online gaming world, but in reality it is becoming an ever popular word with teenage society.
a noob could be simply a level 100 running round shouting ‘’WTF DO I GO!?’’ or someone calling someone else a noob and then getting hit with a brick, anyone can call anyone a noob, but normally they are noobs themselves

Cal State Northridge
I believe the article said that the Ron Harper plays for Cal State Northridge and will be transferring to act as mentor for Bryce.

It was one of those two. Too many Cal States.

Certainly they're both impressive prospects, but
Strasburg probably ends up with 15 or 20 million this year . . .Harper will probably get at least 10 million and could get more. So we’re talking at least $35 million . . .committed to 2 players . . .who don’t actually play for the major league team.
Now that’s a buzzkill.

What if he gets a full ride scholarship?
Would he consider that at all?

as opposed to the $10 mil he’ll get right away?

but I think they might feel him to be more advanced and promote him aggressively. That is all dependent on how he performs as a pro though of course.

Perhaps
It’ll all depend on the team that drafts him and when he signs. He could start anywhere from the complex leagues to even low A.

andy laroche
take a look at his line.
any thoughts (other than pointing out the fact that he’s been his by 6 pitches)?

?
Not much power, but everything else looks solid. Draws enough walks to give him an above-average OBP. Don’t put much stock in fielding metrics but he looks pretty good there too, and his reputation as a 3B is good.
He’s not stellar, but a team could certainly do a lot worse.

Meh
I’m not saying he’s Cristian Guzman out there, but he’s walking at a lower rate than he has at any level in his whole career (and that OBP is a bit inflated by the abnormal number of HBP alluded to by VD). Combined with the lack of power and above average AVG, he’s basically been the exact opposite of the offensive player I thought he’d be. That’s not to say he’s been bad, just not what I expected.

Maybe that 5 year age difference makes a big difference?

Isnt he
a little bit old (22) for High A?
I mean, his numbers are impressive, but he is a little ahead of the curve, no?

not 22 yet
Neal’s birthday is August 17, 2025
To compare, Dominic Brown’s birthday is Sept 3, 2025 so he’s only about 2 weeks older than Brown who is in HiA as well.
Not saying he’s the type of prospect that Brown is (although I do think he should be recognized as a legit outfield prospect), but he’s been pretty damn impressive so far
Regardless, a 1039 OPS is nothing to sneeze as, especially since he has pretty good plate discipline as well (10.0% BB / 17.9% K)

22 is normal for high-A
If I had to nitpick him, it’d be on the basis that his K rate and BABIP are high enough that he won’t sustain his batting average when playing against MLB-quality defenses.
Still, he looks like a little better bet than the horrific Bowker/Ishikawa/Lance Niekro-type first base “prospects” the Giants have been turning out in droves lately.

Of course
the BABIP is high, but if you look at his career so far he’s posted some pretty favorable BABIP’s. I also don’t consider a 17.9% K rate as a worry. Again, to compare him to Dominic Brown, who currently has a 19.6% K rate.
A concern of mine might be his crazy .337 IsoP at home vs. .217 in away games. Is the San Jose park a huge hitters park? I’m not familiar with it.

how long will it be until kenley jansen is converted to P?
and along that line, how long would you give a guy like adam loewen to start hitting before maybe trying to talk him in to pitching again?

what is daryl jones's future in STL?
he’s not really leadoff hitter, and with rasmus, ankiel, ludwick, duncan, and jay, all either in STL or coming up in the pipeline, has jones’ window of opportunity already passed?

Ankiel is a FA after this year
and Duncan isn’t anything all that special. I dont’ see how Jones wouldn’t still have a “window of opportunity”, unless they trade him before the deadline to get something they need for a playoff run.

Jay Jackson
Another solid outing. After a slow start in the first 3 games, he’s come on strong and really establishing himself, imo, as one of the top pitching prospects in the minors. Considering he is still fairly new to full time pitching and was drafted last year and aggressively pushed to AA, I am very pleased as a Cubs fan. Here’s hoping he can keep it up.
